As most of you know in Indiana allows people 18 years or older to get their LTCH, while you still have to be 21 to purchase a pistol from an FFL. As far as I know it is legal to purchase a pistol through a private party transaction if you are 18 or older (and a non felon of course) and I purchased and traded many before turning 21 but had a few people turn me down for being under 21 though I had a LTCH.
I completely understood them not wanting to make the (private party) sale to me but I was curious as to opinions from others!

I agree I see a lot of people my age carrying in their waistband with no type of trigger guard and constantly flaunting it on social media and 9/10 I’m sure they don't have their pink card
lol.. I've seen a couple off duty police officers on side gigs in Lafayette carrying appendix without holsters.

My son is 19 and has his LTCH, I gifted him his carry guns, but he has bought a few long guns on his own, He went to RK to buy a rifle, and the gun barn guy said he'd never seen a NICS check go through so fast.... I told him to keep his name clean like that! Toeknee if I dealt with you, as long as you have your LTCH, I'd have no problem....(although I am somewhat of a fudd.......lol

That’s exactly the process I went through. I turned 18 and got my LTCH and purchased a handgun through a private sale. Seller looked at my license and everything was good to go.

I was unaware of all of this. Thanks everyone for sharing. I have to agree-if you have valid IN DL and LTCH I would have no problems selling to you as well.

A lot of people saying they'd want to see the pink permission slip. I'm not sure why that's relevant. It's certainly not a requirement.

I bought my first gun before I was comfortable carrying it, so I didn't get my LTCH until after I had purchased a pistol and got some training and practice with it. I would assume many others have similar stories of how their carry journey started.

I'd personally rather not slow down the process for an adult looking to buy their first handgun, especially if they want to take a training class or just practice carrying it holstered around their house for a while to evaluate whether they want to carry in public. Just my :twocents:

A lot of people saying they'd want to see the pink permission slip.

They don't realize that this is simply a snapshot in time. Out of the 100's of 4473's I've called in to NICS, the only one to ever get an outright "DENY" was from someone who also had their pink permission slip. It's a good indicator that someone wasn't a "prohibited person" when the ISP ran the background check but it is not a guarantee they still are. YMMV.

I don't aways need to see a LTCH, a few year ago I sold a 9mm pistol to an 18 year old Amish kid on the word of him and his grandfather that he was 18 and not a felon.

Yea it’s just something I dealt with a couple times and after wasting time and gas money I started just mentioning that I was under 21 but hold a LTCH as I sent an offer. I appreciate you and others that have no issue with it!

Was there a given reason for the deny?

I understand the concern to wanting to see a pink permission slip and I ask to see it to especially dealing with people from sites like Armslist. Just gives a little piece of mind that if their record is clean enough to have a LTCH that they’re clean enough to sell my firearm to but I do also see the opposing side as I wanted to purchase firearms before I had my pink card
