At the height of Watergate you had the same issues with people who hated Nixon. Calls were made to Henry Kissinger demanding that the president be stripped of Nuclear Command Authority. Henry only said that White House Staff were monitoring the president who at the time was drinking a lot.

Power in dc is the ultimate thing so people with TDS would see removal from Nuclear Command Authority as a form of public castration of President Trump much as they had with Nixon. It's about as irresponsible and self centered as you can get and another reason why dc needs to be broken up and scattered around the country.

I've got a good friend who was part of the nuclear navy and I think you're correct from what he's been able to tell me. There are a lot of checks built into the system, and several people have to agree that orders are both real and are legitimate. It'd have to be a hell of a tough call to make.

I would imagine that the "go code" would be evaluated differently depending on what was happening at the time. Ordinary day, or Soviet tanks rolling through the Fulda gap.

Using examples from my time period, but you get the picture. ;)

Loved the movie Crimson Tide with Gene Hackman as the Capt. and Denzel Washington as EO on a nuclear missile sub.

Gen. Milley released a statement via spokesman Col. David Butler. The statement is light on substance but it doesn't deny anything Woodward wrote. Omissions can effectively be lies. Of course since it was omitted, it can be said no lie was told. He'll resign, accept an utterly glorious retirement position, be cheered by MSM and never pay any price. It's sick. The entire federal machine is sick.

My hesitation with this story is the source. A for-profit book. From Bob Woodward.
How did he get transcripts? Are the transcripts accurate? But, again, IF true...
Maybe the fact that Miley, through the Joint Chiefs statement never denied making the calls or what was said.
    -------------------------
"The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs regularly communicates with Chiefs of Defense across the world, including with China and Russia.

These conversations remain vital to improving mutual understanding of U.S. national security interests, reducing tensions, providing clarity and avoiding unintended consequences or conflict.

His calls with the Chinese and others in October and January were in keeping with these duties and responsibilities conveying reassurance in order to maintain strategic stability.

All calls from the Chairman to his counterparts, including those reported, are staffed, coordinated and communicated with the Department of Defense and the interagency.

Also in keeping with his responsibilities as senior military advisor to the President and Secretary of Defense, General Milley frequently conducts meetings with uniformed leaders across the Services to ensure all leaders are aware of current issues.

The meeting regarding nuclear weapons protocols was to remind uniformed leaders in the Pentagon of the long-established and robust procedures in light of media reporting on the subject.

General Milley continues to act and advise within his authority in the lawful tradition of civilian control of the military and his oath to the Constitution."
    -----------------------------
Legalese BS covering traitorous acts. This guy needs to be fired, have his pension destroyed and be locked up. Didn't some Col who rightfully complained about the leadership in the Afghan evacuation get sh!t-canned seconds after his complaints became public?

And this butt stain is where exactly?

Did you see post #51 ? Unless I'm misunderstanding, I think we're in agreement. Although I'd suggest his punishment be greater than simply losing his job.

Meh to each their own. I found it entertaining but then again I've never been in the Navy dispatched to a sub. Your perspective is most likely different than mine.

    :)
When you said, "as EO aboard".. I thought you were talking about yourself.
    EO is Electrical Operator.

But, you were really talking about Denziel as XO, or Executive Officer.
    XO.

You are correct. I meant XO. It's all good though. It's cool if you didn't care for the movie. I'm a big Gene Hackman fan.
