I wasn't a member here then. Was this talked about? Has anything legally been put in place to prevent this from happening again? I ask because I truly don't know.

What the organization has become in recent years is up to debate but this is what it was founded on.

Orders Oath Keepers Swear to Disobey

    1. We will not obey any order to disarm the American people.
    2. We will not obey any order to conduct warrantless searches of the American people, their homes, vehicles, papers, or effects—such as warrantless house-to-house searches for weapons or persons.
    3. We will not obey any order to detain American citizens as "unlawful enemy combatants" or to subject them to trial by military tribunals.
    4. We will not obey orders to impose martial law or a "state of emergency" on a state, or to enter with force into a state, without the express consent and invitation of that state's legislature and governor.
    5. We will not obey orders to invade and subjugate any state that asserts its sovereignty and declares the national government to be in violation of the compact by which that state entered the Union.
    6. We will not obey any order to blockade American cities, thus turning them into giant concentration camps.
    7. We will not obey any order to force American citizens into any form of detention camps under any pretext.
    8. We will not obey orders to assist or support the use of any foreign troops on U.S. soil against the American people to "keep the peace" or to "maintain control" during any emergency, or under any other pretext. We will consider such use of foreign troops against our people to be an invasion and an act of war.
    9. We will not obey any orders to confiscate the property of the American people, including food and other essential supplies, under any emergency pretext.
    10. We will not obey any orders which infringe on the right of the people to free speech, to peaceably assemble, and to petition their government for a redress of grievances

Supporting and defending the Constitution get you called a domestic terrorist group these days, I guess.

Yes, today most states have laws in place to prohibit the seizure/confiscation of firearms during a disaster/emergency. I believe the Indiana Code is around IC 10-14-3-33 ish.

There's also some federal code as a result of the Stafford Act (I believe). Again, around 42 U.S. Code Section 5207.

The above is only disaster related, however, not seizure/confiscation for other reasons.

Someone will be along shortly to correct the above if I got it wrong.

Not so sure we can rely on them.....
As I said what the org has become is up to debate. When I heard about them it was in the context of what happened during Katrina and individuals I served with letting me know that we do not follow unconstitutional and illegal orders.

that was beat into my by a DS and then reinforced by NCO leadership.

I like the idea that those serving the country and community agree are made aware of what is and isn’t a legal and constitutionally allowed order. A standing organization has the potential to be taken down and infiltrated, where a movement does not.

The very process of creating soldiers, marines and police has the ability to create a person who no longer views normal citizens as their equals. History has shown that this superiority complex can be exploited to do terrible things to civilians.

    Anyone remember this?

This still absolutely and utterly infuriates me. It is beyond me that law enforcement and United States military members all of which took an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic believed that disarming American citizens without due process was a lawful and right thing to do.

Every last one of those individuals that participated in the confiscations, especially the law enforcement, are d***** Lucky they got to go home.

When all this crapola started last year, I noticed a neighbor had an Army flag, and several, what I call, pro-gun stickers on his jeep. I saw him out one day and started talking to him about support, and assistance if, and when, the cops start knocking on doors to get the guns, he said he's friends with a lot of cops, and he's actually asked them about that, he said, to a man, they would not do it, that is something the local cops have discussed, and they would refuse any such order. I know our local sheriff, is very pro-gun, not sure about the local Chief of police, but the rank and file are mostly pro gun....I hope this is true, now, and in the future...

I read a report long afterwards of this illegal crap, and many of the law enforcement and National Guard members said they were just following orders, and hadn`t given any thought to what they were doing. Many said that in hindsight, they would not do this again.

This ought to make it plain to everyone that one MUST think through such possible scenarios ahead of time and decide what you will, and will not do. Some call such thinking extremism. Some call such thinking terrorism. I personally call such thinking sound, reasoned, patriotic thinking.
