While I am not a liberal, I will attempt an answer.

    Short version. Government is addictive.

    Long Version.

Most conservatives I know are mad at the government because the government takes stuff from us as BigRed stated. They take our money and property. Most conservatives I know tend to live in more rural areas and actually own stuff. While there are plenty of maps showing where the democrats live. We see them on this site. When I have conversations with conservatives, they are not just upset that their stuff is taken it usually follows that that stuff is then given to someone who didn't earn it through a welfare state that is out of control.

Most of the liberals live in more urban environments. Most of them don't have stuff. Sure there are exceptions, but those exceptions are probably not the ones we are seeing in the streets. They are upset because the government is not giving them enough for what they view as injustices to them by the rich who have denied them to opportunity to get ahead through systemic oppression and they view the police as the enforcers of that oppression. They have been the most affected by COVID not just in deaths but also in economic loss because the lower paying jobs are not coming back.

The conversations among rich liberals seems to be they now wish to move to the suburbs. If that occurs, then there will be even more pressure on inner cities as more rot sets in. They look to the government also to right the wrongs of the past. They believe Trump is a fascist, and all the other things. They just have money and things.

For both sets of liberals the problem with the government is the opposite side of the coin than conservatives. The government is not taking enough stuff fast enough.

This is going to get much worse before it gets better.

This is one of the reasons I support UBI while people around me don't seem to get it. This is an untenable situation, and you aren't going to win hearts and minds of people who take pleasure in burning down the country.
It's cheaper than the damage done by civil unrest, it frees up jobs for people who actually want to work, and it keeps a nice injection going into the economy to make sure there's actually consumers out there willing to frivolously spend money to keep the gears turning. How many folks here used their trumpbux to turn the gears of the economy, rather than simply let it sit in a bank?

It can also be used as an excuse for those who want healthcare. They can spend their UBI on it, or shut up about it. Likewise with college, they could easily afford to attend community college on it. I see it as a conservative alternative to welfare, because it allows you to fail if you chose to do so. It would let us basically shut down the rest of the welfare state, as well.

You just have to make sure the funding for it isn't simply taking from the average property owner, and that it's coming out of our economic growth.

We should keep it classy in here folks.

We may have heathens rioting, but we should be careful of the way we categorize protesters and even ourselves through this.

Lots of folks reading this. We don't need blankets thrown over "all of them" or "all of us."

    :twocents:

Well put BW. Peaceable assembly is a right acknowledged by the first amendment. Looting a jewelry store is a felony. Not a fine line, we need to keep that in mind.

1,500 (that’s my estimate) pro 2A folks (most were armed) in front of the Statehouse a little over two years ago and it was cleaner when we left. We need to beat the drum on the difference.

But some of them HAVE been able to be successful, starting their own businesses in these neighborhoods. They're not rich, but they provide for their families and often employ other people in the neighborhoods. Then they have these same people that live in their neighborhoods turn around and burn what they've built to the ground. Even worse is when people from OUTSIDE their area come in and burn their stuff down. Then the ones that did the burning and destroying turn right around and complain to the government about "the rot" - "food deserts", etc.. They are literally their own worst enemies.

I feel really saddened and angry for the people that have now had their livelihood destroyed by the very people they were trying to help. By the very people that SHOULD be on their side. It's self-perpetuating poverty and the ones most effected by it are the ones that were trying to make themselves and the neighborhoods better. The ones doing the burning and looting don't care. They have no skin in the game. It's time to make them have skin in the game. Want to eat? Work. Start a business. Sell ******* pencils or apples on the street corner if you have to, like people did during the Great Depression. Don't tear **** down and then complain that you have nothing.

I heard on the news this morning, and can't remember the city, someone drove by a federal building and shot at security officers. One federal officer killed, one wounded.

Dad was in the Sea Bees in the South Pacific in WWII. He knew how to build fortifications. ;)

My Dad as well. He spent most of his time on New Caledonia as an electrician. After the war was over his ship got rammed in harbor. Several sailors were lost but my Dad got rescued with only the clothes on his back. Salute to all Sea Bees!:rockwoot:

My dad was in the Eniwetok atoll. Dad's the one in the white t-shirt in the back. He and his buddies blowing off some steam. ;)

I didn't know the Cranberries had that many members all here on INGO. I figured you'd have to be Irish, too, but very cool. I guess they did cycle through a few band members

Anybody heard anything about looting in Greenwood at the he mall this afternoon? :dunno:

Saw the Facebook posts by Ranitup Tazz. Mall closed at noon apparently. Ranitup might actually be in Atlanta and just stirring the pot. Greenwood PD page has lots of civilians willing to help if things get out of hand. Greenwood ain't Indy. The whole town would never get through a metal detector. :)
