Thanks Duffman I appreciate it, though I thought about threading it and seeing if it can be concentric enough for a can.... :). That'll be a ways down the road though.. The wife and I are doing a Dave Ramsey class and its putting a pinch on the gun fund as of lately!
Hopefully this party leaves enough interest for people to buy more kits and have another party!

I think it might be. It was JUST short enough to fit in to 20T press we were using to press it back in the receiver. If I recall we had to tear off the pinned on FH so it would fit in the press. Shoots great though! Got probably 500 rds through it so far.

I'm going through the same problem now with the RPK. The barrel is longer than the standard AK 16" so I have to raise the 12T press off the ground with oak 4x4 so I can press the barrel in.

If anyone has a longer barrel kit, please let me or Clay know before you arrive at the build party. We'll have to work out how we're going to work your rifle.

Wabbit i will check and see if my barrel install tool (tothtool type) will handle the additional length if not i might be able to buy additional threaded rod to handle it..... i have both types as well bluged trunnion tool and standard flat im hoping this will speed up the barrel headspacing and populating issues we ran into on the first build party ..... these tools dont exactly remove the need for a a press in the event the barrel press in to far but far more accurate and smooth installing (i have yet to go beyond a go gauge.) the barrel doesnt seem to jump as much as in a press as well as reduces the risk of bending a barrel .... i also i the one piece trunnion support tool .... does a far better job than the ak builders adjustable front trunnion support tool

I actually thought about the toth tool but that is setup for a stand AK trunnion, not the RPK :( I'll update this thread tomorrow if my blocks work. I may have to wait to try Clay's 20T at the party like they did with the PSL.

Thanks duff and Clay! The PSL just reminded me that we never know what kit might show up.

I got the barrel to fit in my 12T. Where there is a will, there's an idiot willing to disassemble his press and put it on blocks. I only removed the bolts nearest me on the bottom strut piece and rotated it back so it should be okay. This was just to see if it would fit. I'm going to actually press tonight after work.

I have a couple questions. If im building from a flat/80% and its for my own personal use, not selling, does it still need to be 922r compliant? Should I buy a parts kit with preinstalled, preheadspaced, us made barrel with preinstalled sights? I'm guessing this will save a lot of time? Im thinking of doing an underfolder is this more difficult? Any recommendation on what kits/country of origin I should buy?

922r - Yes. But you are going to have the parts anyways to have a better rifle. You'll have a U.S. receiver and U.S barrel. Get the Tapco G2 trigger for 3 more U.S. parts. Just buy a U.S. muzzle device and you are done with it.

If this is your first time, I recommend the preinstalled barrel kits. They cost a little more but worth it to see how the build happens. The next time you can expand your knowledge and learn how to populate the barrel.

If you want an underfolder (which is not harder, just requires a specific flat) my first choice would be a Polish. If you can't find one or too expensive, look for a Hungarian.

Get a flat, not a 80%. I can bend it at the party and weld the rails.

technically, yes, you need to build it to 922r specs.

If you buy a parts kit with a US barrel, preheadspaced, and pre-populated barrel, yes that will save a tone of time.

    Underfolder is no more difficult.

Buy what you can find. Lately the polish stuff I've worked with has been top notch and readily available. Check ak-builder.com or arms of america. I think they both sell pre-headspaced kits. Other places probably do as well.

I can't seem to find the polish kit I want in stock anywhere. I guess I might go with a hungarian. I got one more quick question nitride barrel or chrome barrel?
