Can anyone point me to the law or ordinance that gives someone on a snowmobile unlimited access to drive wherever they want? It seems there is at least one person by me who whenever it snows feels compelled to cut across around 40 yards on their way to a field or two.

this seems to happen everywhere so I assume it's not them just being rude and assuming since snow is on the ground their vehicle is welcome in our yard.

I dunno, but they might want to be careful with that in case you'd dropped some of your bits of steel with sharp points in the yard and forgotten to pick them up before it snowed. Might do some damage.

Many states (not sure if Indiana is one) have a law that protects landowners from liability to trespassers who hike and ride on unposted (against trespass) land. It is meant to encourage landowners of large acreages to NOT post their lands off limits so others may enjoy it as well without having to ask permission of every landowner. (I think there is name for this type of law, but I have forgotten it).

It does not extend to allowing people to camp and build hunting blinds, hunt, etc without permission, and it seems a stretch to say it allows your neighbor to ride his snowmobile through your front yard. Or even your back yard, unless your back yard is 40 acres. :) Even if Indiana has that law, I doubt it applies to residential areas either.

That's as close as I can come.

Oh, I think there is a law against setting booby traps. :)

Bonus points for "shrubberies". Nicely done.

When I lived in Wisconsin this was considered normal behavior. They began their runs after dark and went into the wee hours. Since the roads get plowed and salted, they would run through front yards and over driveways parallel to the roads. I repeat, all night long. As an outsider I asked someone about this behavior and they just shrugged and said "That's the way it is here." Nuff said. Those guys loved their snowmobiles. I suspect that this neighbor of yours is from up yonder somewhere.

Don't complain too much.....or they will raise our license plates and /or taxes to pay to build snowmobile routes, kinda like them bike lanes and nature walks. Just saying.........
