If you listen he did not throttle until contact had been made. If you hit something in one of those cars and get thrown as that car did involuntary throttle response can result. Especially if you are not ready for it.

Quite so. the throttle pedal in those cars is touchy to say the least. Hit a bump and the gas pedal is going to get jiggled a little. Also, you have to hit the gas to make those cars turn quickly.

But from the video, you can't really say for sure which car raps the throttle you hear. It could have been another car closer to the camera that blipped the gas. You have to clear the cylinders out pretty regularly on those cars. There were a lot of cars on the track, who knows which one made the sound you hear on the video? Nobody.

I haven't heard a single driver who has ever raced one of those cars suggest it was Stewarts fault or see where he did anything wrong. It's only the folks who read the headlines "Stewart hits, kills driver" who think it was his fault.

Isn't this the same video that has been discussed since post #2?

Yes, but listen closely to the audio. A driver (possibly Tony; maybe not) throttles up simultaneously with or after Ward is struck. The video I linked to is different. It depicts a driver throttling up before the fatal impact.

The moral of this story is one cannot always believe what one sees or hears, especially on the internet.

Not a Stewart fan by any mean although I respect his passion for the sport, just never have cared for his attitude and on track actions at times. Several years ago when we use to watch NASCAR religiously I said Tony's on the track actions would some day get someone killed. With that said in NO WAY do I believe Stewart intentionally hit the guy standing on the track, hot head or not it's not something another racer or even a normal human being would EVER do. Do I think maybe Tony was trying to send a message to the other driver? Maybe, point being (and Stewart) has done it in the pass also is STAY in your car unless it's on fire until it's out of harms way. I doubt any charges will be brought towards this tragic incident but maybe it will sadly just serve as a "reminder" to all racers about ALL the dangers of this great sport.

Just heard there is s second video from another angle and, at this time, no charges. The investigation is ongoing and the local authorities are asking for eyewitness accounts, videos, etc. In all my years attending/watching races, I cannot remember anything like this.

Just heard they released Stewart's car back to his team, I doubt that would happen if a crime was remotely suspected
