I have been researching something for a couple of friends who, as of right now, do not carry sidearms and would like some information from the fine folks of INGO.

What is more effective? Wasp or Pepper Spray? I am aware that Mace doesn't always work on everyone.

Also: What, if any, regulations and laws precide over the use of self defense chemical sprays?

I want to give them a good recommendation.

    Thanks all!
    Blessings!

Wasp spray is harder to carry (big can) but you can get someone at a fair distance. Works well on animals too. I've always felt that you have to let the BG get too close when using pepper spray.

Legality - you need someone who knows more than I.

Carrying wasp spray is the very definition of stupid. Carry OC that is meant for, and tested on, human beings. If distance is your concern then select a spray that releases in a jet stream. I've read a bit on the wasps spray thing and think it is dangerous and stupid stupid stupid.

Why is it stupid? I just want to know what you think.

Honestly, I thought there was something called "Wasp Spray" that I had not heard about. HA! Shows how much I know about self defense chemical spray... Guess that would be why I carry an XD9SC.

i agree with the wasp spray being a very bad idea....just something about a chemical made for killing things for s.d. sounds like bad mojo.....i know i know i know but we all carry guns blah blah blah. but this is just different..

I just read a label of the can of wasp spray I have here in the house, and it's label reads.

Use of this product for other than the labeled intended purpose may be a violation of State or Federal Law.

Also it could be poisonous to Humans and/or animals.

Personally I wouldn't want to be that guy in court explaining why I sprayed someone in the face with insect poison, when you could have easily bought a can of pepper spray.

Also, not all wasp spray is equal... some might be effective, others may not.

Some people have claimed after accidental contact with wasp spray they experienced little to no adverse reactions.

Also, as pointed out - it could be illegal just because our laws pertaining to the use of chemicals.

I would stick with OC spray.. its base is capsaicin, basically what makes peppers hot...

I just remember being told to carry wasp spray in my car for self defense. Granted this was in Illinois (the land of everything being illegal) and a "while" ago.

I have also used it on coyotes in my old yard. They didn't come back.

Have no idea if it is legal, but it works.

If my life is in danger, and all I have is random spray bottles, they'll get whatever I can spray, including wasp spray.

How is wasp spray worse that .45ACP?

I know i'm by no-means an expert in this matter but having served as an MP in the army I have been sprayed with both for training. They both HURT.... The larger can for wasp spray, is usually meant for larger crowd control where more spray might be required. but is more difficult to conceal than the smaller pepper spray cans. Now the pepper spray is a very good NON-Lethal deterrent to a firearm. many things play a factor when using any type of chemical spray, i've found a good site with alot of info for those that would like to take a look.

I've thought about wasp spray when I've read that some states won't let you carry pepper or CS. Sooooo, what if you happened to be on the way home with some and somebody tried to pull you out of your vehicle? I would use it. But what if the guy isn't a white anglo-saxon Protestant (WASP)? What do you use then?
