Finally got the 5.45 Saiga I've been looking for. These things were almost impossible to find for the past few months, until the new importer kicked into gear. When I heard the Bradis was ordering a couple, I immediately went over and put my deposit down.
Of course, I was so excited when it came in that I didn't actually look mine over real well. My only concern was that it had mag-well dimples and a flat bullet trunion (already had the flat bullet guide). I didn't even notice that legion had stamped out the old RAA importer mark in the most god-awful ugly way until I got home and took it out the box. I was pretty aggravated by that for a long while, until I just said "screw it, I'm going to fix this". If anyone is considering getting a Saiga in the near future... I strongly urge you to pay attention and look for a model without this monstrosity. It will make your conversion a lot easier if you stay clear of those Saigas.
Day I brought it home.
Ugly importer hash mark cover up.
Disassembled
Mark ground down.. OH! So that's what Legion is hiding under there!
Sand - prime - repeat until I got this...
Entire receiver masked off and primed...
Paint...
Bake...
Done... now it looks like it should!
Romanian folder before...
Folder after, OD paracord wrapped.
Bullet guide installed... Didn't break any taps this time!
Another shot of mark removal.
DONE!
I'm digging the OD Green setup.
Well that's all folks. Hope you guys like it. I've got a new AK74 thread FSB on the way from Dinzang and a K-Var US made break... but that is another project for another day.
