I would like to see our Indiana lawmakers bring a health insurance reform bill to the floor. One that allows state wide risk sharing between all individuals, not just certain people in certain regions. Zero cost to implement, allows for greater risk sharing, and more competition from providers.

Personally I think the Government should completely stay away from Legislating any thing to do with Insurance.

I am damn tired of Paying an equal share for everyone...

They already have their mits in it, which is the root cause of the problem. Current legislation and regulation says I can only buy insurance with similarly employed people in a similar geographic locaiton.

So yes, the new law will basically repeal the old laws and make it more wide open like car insurance.

    This^^^

Regulations are part of what make insurance so expensive. If we were to de-regulate and allow insurance companies to compete over state lines, that would go a long way in lowering costs. We should also be able to buy whatever coverage we want. I don't need insurance to pay every time I need to see my doctor, but major medical would be nice.

I also like HSA's. I had one in Texas and it really made me think twice before just handing over my card to just anyone without knowing what the price was.

HSA's would make people price shop and that would bring insurance prices down more than anything.

while I do support peoples right to change their minds on issues. its pretty clear that obama was just trying to buy votes with his knowingly false statements.

i hope when this goes to SCOTUS it is ruled the same way as this judge did.

If we could all get into tricare for a respectable price then I would love it. However, I don't believe it should be made mandatory.

I don't see how the personal mandate can not be ruled by the SCOTUS as anything but unconstitutional. If this is upheld, then Congress can mandate pretty much anything it wants under the Commerce Clause.

And then the S will HTF.

i agree Keith, I can't see how this goes any way except being ruled unconstitutional. If SCOTUS rules in favor of this bill, there will probably not be riots in the streets but look for some very angry folk.

There is nowhere in the Constitution that allows for the gov't to force citizens to purchase a product. The commerce clause is being used so incorrectly as a reason I cannot even believe it.

Ummm, Article I, § 8. In fact, the law used to require that every single male go buy a gun.

Congress is certainly within its authority to require individuals to buy guns, gear or a uniform.

Of Arms and the Law: Leg history of Militia Act of 1792

Lets see them try to use that as a loophole ;) But seriously, congress ordering people to purchase a gun to defend the country is different from them ordering people to buy a product so they can regulate it.

    Oh, no argument there.

It's just that this silly false meme got started by the Wookies that "government cannot make me buy anything". Whenever I see it pop up I have to whack it.

    Whack-a-Wookie.:D

Americans went back to watch their favorite sitcom, sports team, shopping, working or whatever they do in their day to day lives after the healthcare bill was signed into law. Do you really think it will be different when the supreme court rubber stamps it? The supreme court already acts well out of the scope intended for them and we let it slide. They'll probably even cite international law in their decision and nobody will care. The justices will still show up for work the next day.

Of Arms and the Law: Leg history of Militia Act of 1792

The word "Militia" is used; yet it is defined no where in the Constitution. I think they were stretching when they tried to include every living man in the country to be a part of the militia.

Just change it to a tax instead of a purchase and all this goes out the window.
