In DC, if you don't have a firearm registered for the ammo you have, your ammo is illegal. I assume they call the charge "unregistered ammunition" though I don't know that for sure.

This is why they have no crime involving firearms.

What's it matter if you don't have the gun for your ammo? What are you going to do, throw it at people?

The point of the law isn't to actually affect crime involving firearms, if it was they would have repealed it when it became obvious there was no effect.

The point of the law is: you are doing something someone thinks you shouldn't and they want the government to stop you.

They assume you're such a bad dude you don't need the gun, you'll just walk up to someone and shove them in with your thumb.

Those who own ammo for guns they don't even own are evil greedy hoarders depriving the youth of an opportunity to shoot. Or so the consensus says.

ahhhh .. Ok I gotcha .. yeah I am mad at the hoarders too!! ;) I ran out of 9mm during this whole fiasco! But I am now safely on my way to stocking up to avoid that in the future though. :)

I read a new article last night about an Indy Colt player who is being charge with "unregistered ammo" in DC as well as having a hand gun that is not registered even though it is registered in Indiana it is not registered in DC.

What's it matter if you don't have the gun for your ammo? What are you going to do, throw it at people?

Emily Miller is a DC Reporter that has recently went thru the hassle of owning a gun in DC.
Now she has written dozens of articles about guns, gun laws, and the police in DC.

MILLER: D.C. arrests vet for unregistered ammunition (part 1) - Washington Times
"In September 2011, former Army Specialist Adam Meckler was arrested at the VFW in the District because he happened to have a few long-forgotten rounds of ordinary ammunition in his bag. The veteran of both the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq was jailed and later accepted a plea deal, which he now regrets."

    and
MILLER: Buying ammunition in D.C. - Washington Times
"So I was very careful not to buy ammunition before I had my legally registered gun at home. Although I wondered about the purpose of the law. What’s the worst I could do with ammo, but no gun? Throw it hard and knock a tooth out?"

    Say what?

The article said the gun was registered just not in DC. Perhaps it was registered in another state like his home state if it was not Indiana. I kinda thought it was probably Indiana since he is and Indy colt. If that is not what you were asking let me know. No doubt DC is not a place for the 2nd admendment rights.
