This kid is not even out of primary school and he's gonna run soil & land management?
I'm sure he has plenty of expertise. What's the little dweeb gonna do, approve or deny land and water permits with his "feelings" about it's use?

We are truly living in a alternate reality now.

There are towns in the US that have dogs for mayors. Why would this surprise anyone?

I know a few 17 year olds with a lot more common sense and real world knowledge than most politicians.
    Here here.

I wouldn't subject one of my children to being thrown to the wolves at such a young age but who knows, maybe this kid will be the one who brings the country back from its current state of rapidly devolving :poop:hole in another decade.

This is what happens when adults step up and run for office.

    Pretty much Michigan.
I could see it. I was in 4H with the ag teacher at Columbia city high school and he won the national soil judging competition. He was scary good at that stuff in high school so it wouldn’t be hard for me to believe that this kid could be just as smart. If he is then hes probably more qualified for the job than 99% of people.

The last line of the article could go either way "His advice to other young people is to create the world they want to live in.".

I would say many of our youth (let's say under 30 for a BRN) voted for and have achieved exactly the world they want to live in. A world where there are no truly free men. Where the United States of America becomes the United Socialist States of America and rapidly devolves into Venezuelan levels of dysfunction and tyranny.

They voted for those that wipe their a** with the Bill of Rights, laugh at the BoR's preamble, and desire nothing more than communist collectivism. Depending upon this young man's politics, he may be a promoter of this -> Regenerative farming requires a cultural shift

    and https://www.indystar.com/story/news...ing-how-consumers-can-spur-change/6583893002/

    and https://www.indystar.com/story/news...ed-know-bidens-plan-carbon-market/6620073002/

Of course when this same bunch cannot afford their soy latte's, and organic unicorn tofu, they will demand an increase in their "Universal Basic Income", because you know "at least we're trying to save the planet...Boomer".

I would like to believe he is firmly on the other side, but my pessimism has been constantly reinforced of late, so I am not getting my hopes up.

What comes to mind is that most 17 year olds today have little, to no, life experience. I recently happened to read the test questions from an eighth grade public school final exam around the turn of the 20th century. I didn’t know half the answers. (Just for the fun of it Google Eighth Grade 1900 Public School Final Exam). Most of today’s high schoolers don’t even have to take a civics class.
Granted there are surely 17 year olds who are “smarter” than a lot of politicians - like those stating further immigration to a certain island may soon cause it to tip over in the ocean, for example - but generally speaking I don’t see how your general run of the mill teenager has the maturity to hold just about any public office. Is this kid even old enough to vote for himself ?

I’m afraid your optimism is unwarranted.

This particular news piqued my interest mainly because my girlfriend's youngest daughter went to Purdue and got a BS in Soil and Water Sciences and works for the .gov now. She had to study very hard for 5 years to get it. It's the perfect job for her since her now husband is an army Ranger, so she can be employed by the Ag dept. and work and live anywhere in the country they station her husband.

Soil and Water sciences are not something a kid can just pick up and be proficient at without specialized training. The decisions he might make could destroy many Ag industries and families livelyhoods. That's alot of power for someone so young and "green".

I would think there has to be some law preventing it but maybe not in this screwd up world

    Reminds me of Isaiah 3:11-12

11 Woe unto the wicked! it shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him.
12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.

My daughter is in 4H and FFA and soils is her favorite activity. She knows a heck of a lot more about the stuff than I do and she’s 15.

My former BIL was one of those rural kids that was raised on a big farm, took ag classes, could weld and fabricate at age 18. His dad gave him 10 years of on job training as he grew up, sold seed corn and had their own spray equipment business, better than any college. Rare, but it happens.

It’s not just the soil but the interaction of fertilizers herbicides and pesticides and drainage of the soil into the nearby streams and rivers.

I don’t doubt that these kids are very knowledgeable, but lot of calculations have to made to come up with a formula that balances the needs of the crop
land and the pollution to the surrounding environment. These things are all taken into consideration when approving permits.

Soil percolation tests, run off volume, concentrations of chemicals, etc. etc.

I approve this message. If I could go back in time 4 years, I would teach a cat to play piano, and gift it to Trump as an Inauguration present.

He would shut down the internet (instead of the other way around), and Joe Blow would still be in his basement sniffing old panties.

There are towns where that would be a vast improvement.

Doubtless. If I'd managed to get Canadians angry on one border, a Caravan headed towards the other, and I wasn't even inaugurated yet...I think I'd put down one food dish labeled "yes," another labeled "no," and let the German Shepherds run the country.

    Worth a shot.
