I have had a Marlin 45-70 for many years now. My budget keeps me from shooting it as often as I'd like. 7lbs without 6 in the tube and 1 in the chamber. I'm jonesing for a Ruger #1 in 45-70. My brother-in-law and I loaded 500 gr bullets with about as much powder as it would hold. Man, what a rush!!

It has rained every day since I picked up the Carbine. The indoor pictures don't do it justice; it is a gorgeous rifle.

No longer have a 45-70 chambered rifle but now use a peep sighted TC New Englander with the barrel sleeved to have a .458" bore diameter, loading lubed lead or paper patched bullets (45-70 molds) with over powder card wads.

My 45-70 is an old 1895 Marlin. Still one of my favorite rifle/caliber combinations. Paid $400 for it when it wan't one of the cool new guns.

If ever and sadly I doubt it, 45/70 became legal to hunt with here in Indiana I would buy one WO hesitation.
But I already own enough rifles I can not hunt with east of the Mississippi and 45/70 is not my idea of a cheap to reload fun range day plinking round.

I shot my brothers 45/70 a couple weeks ago, lots of fun to shoot if you pay attention to how hot of a load your shooting. I would hunt about anything with that gun, pull them out of the safe and have some fun. Great gun

It already is legal to hunt with on private property.

I have 3 .45-70s. One Ruger #1 and 2 Marlin 1895s. I have found them to be very accurate. I just assumed it was an accurate cartridge. Some seem to be more accurate than others. I really like the levers but if I had to keep only one it would be the Ruger.
    Have a great day.

    This is my .45-70 and a Winchester M1 I forgot I had.

The .45-70 is an English P14 that is re-barreled and custom stocked.

It shoots a 405gr JSP with 28.5gr of 5744 using Win Mag primers.

I haven't shot it much, but have put 2 shots in the same hole twice with both the scopes I have had on it.

The scope in the pic is no longer on it, I went with a BSA. DSC05717.JPG

I stumbled across this new offering from Henry the other day. I think this one just got high up on my list of wants.

That looks pretty nice for a Henry, start saving they are going for 1400-2500 (at least on gunbroker).

I saw one sell at $2,000 +. I wouldn't mind having one of these, but that kind of price is crazy.

I have a 1884 Model Springfield Trapdoor Rifle, an H&R Trapdoor Rifle, and a Marlin Model 1895 with a 32" barrel. I shoot a lot of .45-70 rounds per year. Marlin I use 405 gr, Trapdoors get a 535 gr bullet. Marlin will do under 1" all day at a 100 yards with a 6x scope.
