I've got two Ishapore's, one a Gibbs carbine. Had a Savage Enfield No4 which I foolishly sold. I wish someone would make new rifles with some of those Enfield designs with updated metallurgy. Some of my favorite actions. I bought my dad a Webley some years ago. Great designs.

What's wrong with the metallurgy? I have an Enfield that's been re-barreled to 45-70 that can handle loads that are close to 458 Winmag. The receiver is original Enfield.

Nothing per se, but I wouldn't mind an enfield action with some modern alloys. Plus I wouldn't have to hack up a historic rifle. That said I'm looking for a Savage action to built a 444 marlin bolt gun on. I wonder if there'd be the market for a reissue of an enfield action. Likely not with all the cheap bolt guns available now.

You could always look for an Enfield that some Bubba has already hacked up (sporterized). Sometimes you can get those pretty cheap, and without the guilt. ;)

And I'm not talking about one that's been professionally sporterized. Some of those can be quite nice. I'm talking about the ones where somebody cut the stock down and lopped off the end of the barrel and called it a sporter.

I've got a couple of Smellies & they're my favorite bolt action rifle. They're in full military configuration & I'd not change them for anything. All of that being said; I recently purchased a different Brit, a Birmingham Small Arms side by side boxlock 12 bore with 2½" chambers. It's an ejector model. I've got a case of RST 2½" No. 4 shot to feed it as well as a couple boxes of Nobelsportitalia 2¼" 00 buckshot for more serious application. IMG_20210505_110721.jpg

While I've become more of a fan of French guns from the 18th to the mid-19th centuries (and all their descendants), the Brits got a place in my heart with the Snider and Martini guns. I still need to add a .450/577 Martini to my collection, but my P64 Snider seems to be fitting in with it's contemporary brethren.

Who doesn't like a .58 caliber centerfire cartridge? (these guys aren't crimped, just hand seated... my full set of .577 Snider dies are on super backorder with Midway and I refuse to drop $200+ to get them faster).
