Hey wheel gun brothers…. Kicking around the idea of a snub nose… looking at a used M&P 340 (no lock) can be had in the high to mid 7’s. Based on what I’m seeing online, I think mid 7’s is probably fair. Thoughts on it for something small to carry? Have semi auto options but like the thought of a 357 to keep by 686 company lol

Edit to add… thinking of this and the 856 ultra light Taurus. Not really a fair comparison but it is what it is
340 is a sweet one. I have an 856 and it’s actually nice revolver, not 340 nice, but still a decent snubby. Don’t rule out an Sp101, they’re also a solid choice although not exactly light weight

I’m actually seriously considering the Taurus 606 and the 856 Ultra Lite. Then using the say $400 savings for a laser grip. I’ve seen the regular 856 locally but not the UL models. How tough is it finding a good holster? I’ll probably do a spring kit and I’ve seen some decent ones for the 856 series.

The LGS was at $800 out the door for the M&P 340 which upon close inspection had a few blemishes and worn out front night sight. If they would come down another $50-75 I’d bite but it’s a no go and seeing how it’s been there collecting dust over month already I do t see it going anywhere.

I had a SP101 years back and you’re right, it’s an absolute brick. Another option would be a Smith 638 or 642.

Quest for a new snubby wheel gun seems to be complete minus shipping and transfer. Came to what seems like a good deal on a 340PD with laser grips and better shape than the one at my local shop. I have that my local guys seem to be pricing themselves out of the market but that’s another rant

Always wanted a matched pair of something. anything... cowboy guns, 1911s... just a matched pair of something. Guess I watched The Lone Ranger too much growing up. Finally got that one goal. Went the six gun route with a pair of 4" barreled S&W 686-6s. Already had a 3" 686 plus, but couldn't find another like it. I lost a round, (OK, gained 5 seeing as there's 2 guns now) but gained an inch in barrel. At least I got the matched pair I've always wanted. They're so pretty, and sooooo smooooth. Former owner says they weren't shot much, but they do have aftermarket springs from Wilson Combat, and fiber optic sights.

I love my 340 PD. It is partial to Magtech 158 gr. SJHP. They are quite a handful though. I have a Hogue Tamer grip on mine that really helps.
