You’re right, XDs for duty use make zero sense.

    :):

Also, if you burned up all your ammo, didn’t hit anything and need another mag, what makes you think I’m gonna give you one of mine?

Speaking from experience, yes makes no sense. Years ago we had them and at least one failed the first time on the range. One of our kiss a$$ specialists convinced the powers that be we needed them. New chief came and we got new Glocks immediately.

That ammo and parts and mags interchangeableabiity is only important for a specific agency. And only for consolidation of manual of arms training and buying parts, servicing said guns and same caliber for buying well one caliber.

And not sure if you were directing there but having folks in same caliber mag for swapping in battle just isn’t a probability in a LE shooting. Yes we can quote the Bank of America shootout however that’s about the only one in almost 30 years.

    Military applications makes total sense

The difference in issued firearms between LE Agencies will continue to be different. Wether caliber , make or both. (And cost plays in there at times)

Basically who’s in charge or who runs their firearms program gets to pic.

As always, thank you for contributing your professional experience. :ingo:

    To play devil's advocate, I'll just say;

Fire extinguishers, seat belts, motorcycle helmets. Rarely needed, but irreplaceable when they are needed.

It cost nothing to centralize LEO sidearms throughout the state of Indiana. And many of us would adopt what law enforcement has universalized across the region. Regardless of whether it was our own personal choice or not.

I'm a Glock guy, but would switch to 320's in a heartbeat if it was Indiana's law enforcement sidearm. It would only make sense, the same as it would only make sense to universalize across departments. I don't even need to mention the equipment maintenance and training value to it, right? Cost savings to Indiana by working out state contracts for sidearms, parts, training, gear, etc?

Can I handle and shoot my Glock better than a 320. Sure can. That can and will change though, if it makes sense to do so.

Why? I see the value and benefits for a state standarization across departments, but I don't see what that has to do with non-LE carry.

I had an XD tactical 45acp. I ran thousands of rounds through it without problems.
Is it a hit miss issue with XD handgun or the XDM models?

Sig 320 in 9mm until they pull a Milwaukee and have too many "uncommanded discharges".

Our local SD went from H&K P7's to XDM's to Sig 320's. They said Sig bent over backwards to get the business, too good a deal to not take it. RDS are optional.

If I was a Trooper pulling over a Hoopty on a dark lonely road I’d want a G20 with 2-3 spare magazines. 10mm is the best MM!

https://www.youtube.com/@8541tactical , Evansville PD a few years back spoke of Sig making an LEO package of their 320, with their RDS, as one part number. He elaborated that was a very smart move for Sig and the department. Eliminating lots of variables, authorizations and costs for all the odd combinations that could be thought up.

What does Indiana State Police do with their firearms when they go with a different brand or model?
I hope they don't destroy them.
They sell them to distributors. I have two old Indiana State Police S&W 66's, ISP Beretta 92G, ISP Beretta 96G, ISP Beretta 84, Indianapolis PD Beretta 92D, Marion County Sheriff Dept S&W 66 4", and Marion County Sheriff Dept S&W 66 2.5"

ISP just had their P227’s re sprung, so the P227’s aren’t going anywhere anytime soon. And from all the issues that ISP had had with all of the previous Glock’s (G22’s, G17’s and G21’s) I’d say it’ll be a cold day you know where before they go back to Glocks.

Glock is supposedly going to be offering this soon, slides milled from the factory for whatever optic departments choose.

I've heard no rumors of them changing. If they do, it'll probably be to P320s in 9mm. The DNR is using those now, so there's some statewide agency precedent. I'm not sure about down south, but up here it seems like most everybody is either carrying the Glock or P320 these days.

Our whole county has been on the P320 platform since 2017, with the exception of a couple of smaller agencies. Our department adopted them so early that the first batch we got were pre-upgrade, and Sig ended up trading them out. They've been great guns...reliable, low maintenance, easy to teach and easy to adapt to the individual shooter's geometry. We have no complaints.
