This will be my forth year deer hunting and I could not be more excited. Headed out to my property in Parke County Friday morning to get ready. Deer stands & blinds have been set for months. Two years ago, my BIL took a big 10 point. Last year, he and I got twin 8 points within 30 minutes of each other. Been seeing some 10's & 12's on the trail cams the past few weeks and hearing rumors from the neighbors of some 16 points around. Hopefully they are still around on Saturday morning!

Packing up my gear today and got me thinking about what everyone carries when they head out to deer hunt. Here is my loadout:

Ruger American Ranch suppressed 300 BLK w/Leupold 1-6x scope
    Sig P220 Hunter
    Sig range finder
    Camelback backpack w/water bladder
Knight & Hale Pack Rack antler call
    Primos Long Can deer call
    Hand warmers
    Bowie Knife
    Outdoor Edge field dressing knife
    Field dressing gloves
    Camo balaclava
    Extra Gloves
    Rain Shell

Good luck to everyone this weekend! I hope you all fill your freezers.

    Ruko Hydra-X knife set
Mossy Oak overalls, coat and gloves, homemade shearling sheepskin hat
    Scent blocker undershirt
tree stand harness that doubles to drag deer out
    line to pull rifle up
camo pad for sitting in tree stand
    recycled water bottle
extra gallon of water plus a towel for cleanup
    UV-killer orange vest
    Headlight
Crossbow in the car (just in case)

Freezer is already full of garden produce - might have to can some of last year's deer to make room.

ETA: I'm trying to add a Glock 40 to the loadout, but both potential sellers are distinctly non-responsive.

    Guthook knife

    water bottle
    several paper towels
    grunt call
    powerade
pork loin jerky that is currently on my smoker

Got my rifle systems ready today.

I have a 20 inch 6.5 Grendel upper. Basically an Odin Works upper my LGS put together for me. Basic AR15 lower from Aero. Sighted in for 260 yards. I'm using Hornady Custom 123 G SST rounds.
My back up is a Ruger American in 450 Bushmaster. Sight in is roughly 200. I'm using Hornady 250 gr SST rounds.
My shots should be between 200 and 300 yards. I'm in a hay field in surrounded by corn and woods/creek to my North.

I'll probably carry the AR, so I'm not limited in case a shot opens up at a longer distance. I don't want to both with carrying both rifles, but I really like the American. For a big thumb of a round it's very accurate.

I'm going to make a dope chart for the reticle I'm using for easy math if the shot is beyond the point blank range of the sight in.

Beyond the important stuff, I'll carry a knife kit and an old bushnell range finder. I'll be in a blind with two boys (my 8 year old son and his buddy from church) so I'll also bring snacks to keep them interested.

We'll all be dressed for 20 degrees.

I tried finding a Glock 40/20 for a long while ! They seem to show up in the classifieds in bursts then they go away for awhile. And all of them were on the other end of the state

Can't decide. I've only been out 1.5 days with the crossbow, might take it, or might take the 308. Also, based on activity I've seen on cameras and the 1 full day in the field, I may forego my stand for a more active location on the ground. So...load out depends on what I finally decide to do.

    Rattling Forks
pecans, jerky, water and a thermos of something warm
    hand and body warmers
    bibs and heavy jacket
    TP
    screw in accessory holder
I would normally have the Ozonics unit along but the wind is supposed to be just about perfect for the stand closest to my hottest trail cam so I'll probably leave it in the truck to save some weight.

    Other items:
    True Talker grunt call
    Vortex 10x40 binos
    Safety harness
Hawk Crawler stashed half way between my stand and where I will park
I'm still trying to decide between my S20 and Impulse, leaning toward the Impulse currently

Ruger Blackhawk with 158 gr .357 soft points first time out for deer. Will max my shots at 50 yards with open sights.

TC Venture in .243 shooting Hornady 100 gr Whitetail loads. Used the same round for groundhogs earlier this year. Shoots sun MOA at 100 yards and I've got my longest shot set up for 185 yards by the range finder.

Ruger 77 in .270, Nosler Ballistic Tips. Then a Marlin CB in .45-70, my cast 405 grain loading. Depends on my stand choices this weekend.

S20 it is. The Impulse and the Winchester Extreme Points did not get along at all.

Still trying to decide between a Model 1894 with hand loads in 44mag and a Model 700 in 30-06.

Sadly, my favorite 1894 Winchester in 30-30 is having some work done.

    1911 sidearm as always.
