Thank you! A good reminder to try that again. I just struggle with keeping the loin juicy and tender.
I like the 2 pack vacuum sealed loins. Smoke them for about 45-60 minutes at 250 using cherry or apple wood to internal temp of 150. Always juicy.

It appears we are at risk for a significant ice/snow storm this week. I’ll be making sure vehicle are topped off and salt is ready to go.

    Since last my post.

A buddy and I competed in the 2022 Mammoth Sniper Division. It's a very physical gut check type of match and for us it ended the morning of day 3 with a swollen knee, severe back pain and some other minor injuries. Our performance was a reality check and a test of where we were that day. It's great to be surrounded by people at those events and it's refreshing to talk with real people doing real things and not just talking smack on the internet. All things considered, I'm happy with how we performed.

Took an honest look at what guns I own, and what guns I use or have a legit need for. There's a difference and the result is a bunch of guns went on consignment at a local shop to redirect funds into a better direction.

With the snow coming this week, I got a couple small bags of salt for around the house. Carb spray just in case I need to motivate a generator to turn over, and some oil mix for gas cans if that would be needed. I'll double check the snow blower when I get home, but a couple weeks ago it only took one pull to fire it up, so I'm not worried about that.

Continuing to go to the gym, hitting new personal records and overall feeling stronger than I ever have before.

Chickens continue to produce eggs, and starting to plan the summer garden in anticipation of a coming nationwide food shortage.

We may have found a new church that the kids like, so that's a big relief and I'm hoping they all make some friends there ultimately grow into good human beings.

Added a camelbak squadbak to my newly aquired gear list. It's a 5liter water bladder that I can use for any water needs, but what I really like about it is being able to throw it on the roof of the jeep and use the hose as a field expedient shower. One of these has been on my list for a long while.

Let me start by saying, I am not much of a prepper.

I was coming home today and decided to go to the store. My wife usually does the shopping, so I have no frame of reference as to what goes on there.

    I was spooked.

The produce section was almost bare. Much of the bread was gone. Random shelves were empty. It was freaky.

I had heard things were getting bare on forums and Reddit, but my wife hadn't mentioned it, so I figured we were still ok here in Indiana. I was wrong. I don't know why she didn't say anything.

I spent about $150 on things we hopefully won't need. If shelves empty out tomorrow, we are good for 2-3 months with the meat we have in the freezer and the things we already had in the cupboard.

    It was weird.

What you saw was probably the fallout from Snowmageddon shopping. Normally the situation is not as bad as it has been yesterday and today.

Yes. This may well be "the perfect storm" of panic news.

Local Walmart was pretty picked over by the last minute shoppers. I was hoping to snag a couple more little green propane tanks but they were out. I have 6, which is plenty to cook with for a while. I have salt, shovels, food, water, fuel, etc. Once I hit my driveway Thursday afternoon, I don’t have to leave again for 3 days unless I want to!

    Could be anywhere
Actually, it's been getting bare on the shelves for a bit now...the coming snow may have had an impact but I've seen bare shelves now for more than a month or so. I've told the wife about it and took pictures today to show her.

Starting to look like the former Soviet Onion. Just keep peeling back the layers, nothing gets better.

This is your daily warning that socialism/communism always end in starvation and genocide.

That is scary... all by design!! Spring and summer is going to be rough. I've been prepping for months and months now, since atleast the start of last fall. Seen this coming when Trump was stolen out of office. Crisis after crisis the govt creates.. however I don't think they will have a "solution" this time, they want us to die, especially conservatives, repubs and patriots.

Meat is good, but what if the grid intentionally goes down?? non-perishable items, and food prepper/emergency kits, can get 4 day rations for 2-4 people for 20-30 bucks, and get multiples!

I think it's a classic frog in the kettle type of analogy. If you're the one in the household who's used to going to the store you probably don't notice the empty spots on the shelves that much. When you haven't been to the grocery in a long while and you see empty shelves it's quite the shock. Even before all this snow panic buying happened the shelves were getting bare.

What's got me concerned is how quickly the shelves will restock after all this snow happens. The trucking situation in the US and Canada especially has me a little bit concerned. One surge in buying is one thing, getting restocked will be quite another.

We've been talking about this in our house and this year we're going to make some major efforts in gardening to supplement our food.

Not just this week, but recently...

Got a side of beef and some more pork chops in the freezer.

Tried my hand at canning ground beef to start being less reliant on my freezer & the grid for my food stores. Learned some things on the way (also reinforced that I'm not a fan of our electric cooktop) and resolved to get a bigger pressure canner. It's a lot of work to only be able to process 7 quarts at a time. If I get a double-decker canner that takes 14 quarts, I can process 21 at a time without a whole lot more prep work... also need to pick up more wide-mouth jars.

I have, in the last couple of months, acquired two Berkey water purifiers, a big Berkey and a Go Berkey kit. I have also started a first-in first-out canned food storage in our pantry and have about eight weeks worth of freeze dried food stored up. Getting there (albeit slowly). I’m in pretty good shape on guns and ammo and alarm system, dog, etc. Getting as many dry fire reps as I can in with a Mantis X10 after the kids go to bed. Gotta work on my holster draw though.

We can all of our ground beef in pint jars-- pint holds 1 # each
