If you open carry a pistol there, I doubt anyone would notice...some may care, but no one would call the cops.

The rifle, though, I'm glad he was found to not be a threat, but you really can't blame someone for calling and the cops for asking a few questions.

Also, while a threat can arise at any time, that Wal Mart on a Saturday afternoon isn't exactly a hotbed of violence.

I grew up in Valpo and still own a home there. I am sorry to see the quality of people who reside there now.
Good that nothing came of this incident, but maybe someone needs to sit him down and ask if he really thought this was a good idea, then smack him upside the head.

Oh please ! Try living in Michigan City !!! every street corner smells like dope and ya better keep your head on a swivel.
Our cops were sent to sensitivity training to stop the arrests AKA "lowering the crime rate"
At least Porter County's sheriff is a straight up dude.

Yes. I live about 3 miles from the Wal Mart at issue.

It's mainly the Kouts and south contingent that add the....flavor... to this particular store rather that the north of 30 crowd far to the west.
Had the same feeling when in that area, something always seemed off about that place, never could put my finger on it.

I also live about 3 miles from this store and actually had some friends who were there and videoed the man being escorted out. We were all discussing as well as a couple of County officers this man's reasoning for doing this. Obviously common sense was thrown out the window, but he walked right up to the line of the law and followed it. I do think the police did the right thing and did not overstep their boundaries.

But what do you think his reasoning was? Do you think he was testing the waters? One thought was he had an accomplice videoing the situation to try and get youtube famous/viral so to speak. Just a dumbass trying to be "cool"?

Interesting comment on MC. Our son who is a cop in Porter county was recently involved with a situation that started in MC and ended up in Porter county. Afterwards he was talking with one of the MC cops. The cop told him that MC is turning into a real s**t hole. Making Gary look like a garden spot.

It was on its way the year and a half I lived there in 89-90. I remember dodging cinder blocks and other stuff in the road after the race riot on my way to work on US12. We lived about 2 blocks off of 12, so that was exciting... That was about 3 months or so before we moved back to the Indy area.
