OK, I just jumped into PCPs! After lots of research, I decided this was the sweet spot for price vs. performance in a .22 caliber air gun. Mainly, this YouTube video is what influenced me. The performance of this rifle is incredible! It has as much muzzle energy as a .25 caliber and is capable of shooting heavy pallets (over 20 grains), at over 900 ft./s:

Here’s Hard Air Magazine’s full review:

Here’s another article from them explaining just how powerful this new for 2021 air rifle really is:

Finally, here’s another article from them with tips and tricks a new owner of this rifle may find helpful:

I had previously written a thread about how hard it is to choose an air rifle as a left-handed shooter. The reason I chose this one, despite not being truly ambidextrous, is the fact that the bolt is far enough forward and has a short enough stroke not to be a problem for a left-hander. The value proposition of this gun is just too hard to pass up. Also, the original Gauntlet has a tremendous reputation among the air gun enthusiast community and this one incorporates much of what was learned from modders about the first-generation Gauntlet.

Pellets are hard to find right now! This rifle really does well with hard-hitting, wind-bucking heavy pellets, so I had to go on the hunt for several suitable ones to try and have three different types inbound.

Next is to choose a scope, get everything together, and begin testing. I went to all this trouble because although it’s new and very scarce right now, I think this gun will be good enough (and popular enough) to warrant the effort, which will be helpful to others.

I didn’t know Grab-a-Gun sold air guns. I found this one on gun.deals and as soon as I purchased it they went out of stock, so I sure hope they actually had one. I’m going to be nervous until I get a tracking number. More to come!

How are you charging this? Airgun friend of mine loves this gun. Not really looking to huff a bike pump until I look like the guy in the lower RH corner of that video, so would be interested to know how you're powering it & how much was the entry-cost on that setup.

I got the gun for $350, $391 including tax and shipping. I just ordered one of these “used, like new” for $308 plus tax from Amazon warehouse:

Spritech PCP Air Compressor,Auto-shutoff 4500Psi/30Mpa Oil/Water-Free Set-pressure Air Gun and Paintball Tank Pump with Water/Oil Separator,Built-in Power Adapter(110V AC or 12V Car Battery) Amazon product ASIN B08ZS516DX

It’s actually the same compressor sold here for $800 at Pyramyd Air:

You have to be cautious buying these portable compressors. Some are DC only and sell for about $300. Here’s a YouTube review on the one I bought from Amazon:

I have all my own scuba gear, including tank, and I was going to use that, but this rifle has a 4500 psi bottle, so no go on the scuba tank.

Looks to be an impressive rifle OP! I have a number of airguns, various propulsion, but no PCP. It's the cost of the compressor that keeps me out of that game...we have no scuba shops around my area, or really any other way for me to charge the gun. Sucks.

I hand pump my Mrod, but the capacity is only 3000psi. Not sure whether the hand pump would fill this Umarex?

I'm happy hand pumping, for now anyway. I wouldn't want to lose track of the way and how to do it. Being able to fill without electrical power is important to me.

I'm VERY happy to see more and more competition in the PCP market for guns and associated gear. This is great for us all!

    ..............................................................

My advice to scoping this this gun, if not done yet, is to not skimp on the magnification. You don't have to use all the magnification all the time, but will really appreciate having it when needed. I have 6-18 on the Mrod and wish it was 6-25.

Also with mildot or mrad reticle, for wind and holdovers. The cheaper Vortex 6-18 I have has a BDC reticle that is usable, but would be much better with mildot.

Thanks for the advice on scopes. I am looking for at least 24X. I have something in mind that I’ll get to in a future post in this thread.

Time to talk about pellets… It’s been quite a saga finding a suitable range of pellets to test. I just found the pellet that I was looking the hardest for, after buying three others. All are between 23 and 25.4 grains, each with a unique shape. These are the four that I’ll be testing.

    Kvintor Point 23gr from Russia:

Air Gun Pellets 22 Caliber – Air Rifle Pellets .22 Cal 23 Grain Pointed Tip 150 Count Amazon product ASIN B08MWMB1K4

H&N Rabbit Magnum II 25.31gr (the listing is misprinted as 25.62gr) from Germany:

HAENDLER & NATERMANN Rabbit Magnum II .22 Cal 25.62Gr 200ct Cylindrical Air Gun Pellets (HN-92255500003) Amazon product ASIN B003FD6C24

JSB Exact Monster 25.39gr from Czech Republic:

FX 25.4gr also from Czech Republic:

The last two are where things get really interesting. The third link is the older version of the JSB Monster. The newer “Redesigned” version (clearly noted as “Redesigned” on the tin) is the one that performed so well in the first review video I posted in this thread. It’s impossible to find in stock anywhere (except a couple of dealers that don’t ship outside the EU). I later learned that FX markets the same pellet as the Monster Redesigned, which is the fourth link I posted. I suspect there might not be much performance difference between the older Monsters and the Redesigned Monster/FX at the velocities the Gauntlet 2 will be capable of pushing them. For a bit more about what this rifle can do with the JSB Monster Redesigned/FX 25.4gr, check this video out at the 13:20 mark:

The other two shapes are entirely different and will be interesting to test. I’ll bring results to this thread over time. I have a few more things to get together—a case long enough to transport all this, a bipod (and a way to mount it), and possibly a chronograph… Since this rifle doesn’t have an adjustable regulator or hammer spring, it’s kind of a case of “I get what I get” accuracy wise, so there’s no real reason for chronograph testing unless I decide to quantatively determine shot count and consistency. I think other websites have already done a good job of that, though.

There’s lots more to come in this thread.

I think I’ve made my scope choice. I’ve aimed fairly high here because if I grow beyond the Gauntlet 2 platform, I want a scope that can grow with me:

Why this one, when Hawke makes the Airmax line of specialist air gun scopes? Because I spent a lot of time playing around in Strelok Pro! Yes, it has pellets in the bullet database! I didn’t realize that until today.

Using the JSB Jumbo Monster Redesigned/FX 25.4 grain pellets at just under 900ft/sec, here’s how things look from 50 yards at 32x at a zeroing distance of 50 yards with the scope 2” above the bore (which is a best-guess at this point). The target is 12” in diameter with a 1” diameter bullseye. The first zero is at 16 yards. How convenient! At the resulting .62 MRAD dot spacing, holdovers are (approximately, close enough!) 10yd/dot, and wind holds are 5mph/dot:

    2C8E8889-8CB1-4CF1-B7BA-238D29E9D3C0.png

Of course, these wind holds shrink to (again, approximately, close enough!) 2.5 yd/dot out at 100 yards. I believe it would be difficult to have things work out much more conveniently than this, assuming I’ll be at 50 to 100 yards for precision target shooting. If those targets happen to have fur or feathers, that’s still a pretty good range to work within. ;)

The cool kids run Atlas's. Like your scope though, one of these will be an investment.

I made the mistake of buying a used BT10LW17. Now I think I need another $300 bipod. The ADM mount makes it simple to move the bipod around, after putting Magpul rail sections on all rifle forearms. I feel like one needs to be living on the barn window varmint rifle for quick action though.

Lemme know if you run across any holiday sales on these, or better yet a used one for sale.

Thanks… Yes, those Atlas are nice. I have a Harris which I use with my .308, so I just ordered one of these so I can use it on the Gauntlet 2, as well:

Now, what can I sell quick to get that scope on order? :dunno:

Well, this whole thread can go right out the window. Grab a Gun gets an “F” for inventory control and an “A” for accessibility and sincerity. I said I wouldn’t rest easy until I had a tracking number. Well, they sold me something that didn’t exist. Can’t find a Gauntlet 2 anywhere so I bought an Air Venturi Avenger Wood Stock from Utah Airguns. Guess I’ll start another thread for that one.
