Four Winds Casino opens in South Bend today. It's a true Tribal Casino, the first in Indiana as far as I know.

How do I go about finding out about if I can carry there and all applicable laws I need to follow. I've checked their website and found nothing.

I saw on a South Bend tv news report: The tribe is it's own nation and makes it's own laws. So NO guns on their property. Not trespassing, a FELONY (according to the news...).

Hope that helps. Maybe google for the story... ?

Uh, I've got a question! Is this the fake news or factual news?

Looks like a big NOPE on carrying.

The laws vary on Indian land, for example with a permit you can carry a gun in Indiana, but not at the casino.

"When you come onto tribal property, that's Indian property. It's no longer part of the state of Indiana," said Hanley.

Glad I read this. I was watching the casino stuff on the news this morning, thinking that might be interesting to go to. It doesn’t sound like they want me there.

So . . . they don't want any of us spending money in their casino. Got it!

I just sent them a message on their web site:

    Hello:

Congratulations on your new business venture!

When reading about the your casino in South Bend, news articles mentioned that the Indiana License to Carry Handgun is not valid on your property, even outside of the casino proper. If true, that's an unfortunate choice on the part of your tribe as it sends a strong message that I am not welcome and you do not want me to spend money in your casino or resort. If you're familiar with Hoosiers, you'll realize that a significant number of potential customers will reach the same conclusion.

If the news account are in error and your tribe will recognize my right to be armed while visiting, please let me know and I will reconsider visiting.

    Thank you for your attention!

Good on you, Rhino! Let us know if you get a response. I live relatively near, but have no real desire to visit the casino, but it would be nice to know.

NEVER mess with any Tribal Police. If you are white - you are the enemy. I have dealt with them in Arizona and New Mexico. You have absolutely no rights on the Rez as far as they are concerned. Not in a casino - not in your vehicle - not on a hiking trail. They don't mess around.

It's not unusual for reservations to have "no guns" laws. I remember traveling through South Dakota on a couple of reservations. Sometimes The Res was identified, sometimes not. Had me a bit concerned.

Uh, around here, the Tribal Police are about as tribal as Lizzy Warren.

They are typically draw from the ranks of local PDs. Many of whom have their 20 years in, aren't ready to retire, want a nice raise, and better working conditions.;)

I know a State Trooper who did this years ago and a South Bend PD guy who just became tribal police in advance of the new casino opening.

In protest of the lack of respect for our right to self-defense, I will boycott this casino....as I have every other casino for the past 46 years.

The tribal police in the SB area appear to be ex-SB or Elkhart cops. Retired or otherwise. In other words, not Indian...
