If I have a gun on me, which is 100% of the time when out and about, I've always got at least one reload, usually 2. Just a habit I got into and don't feel the need to change.
This where I am at too. Always carry in or out of the house and also have a spare mag or two when off of my property. This is how I've done it for close to 15 years and it is what makes me comfortable.

Even now, sitting on the couch after watching a movie with the wife, I have a .40 P226 on my hip and I cannot feel it unless i reach to touch it to see if its still there. (It is )

I just recently converted from carrying my edc Glock 19 with extra mag in my front, to a 340pd with an 2 speed strip in my front pocket. World of difference when carrying especially with extra ammo

I always carry a spare. (or 2) Both for the extra ammo, and to get the gun up and running again should there be a problem.

When packing one (or both) of my 686s, (yes, I have a double carry shoulder rig... lol) I carry speed loaders.

Every pistol I carry gets a setup like this or very similar. Usually, that means 51 rounds total. (Or more)

I've been debating for a few years about putting extensions on my backup mags. The mags ride at 9:00, opposite the pistol. I don't think the extra legnth or weight of an additional 5 rounds each will matter much for EDC?

The only concern is compromising the factory mag reliability by adding the extension. I've seen hoards of TT mag extensions used in USPSA though and never a mag related failure. Not so sure about EDC?

EDC is a Glock 26 ............I always carry a spare mag , 21 rounder in my cargo pants pocket .
To each his own .............I just want some backup ammo should a situation present itself . I am not a competition style re-loader and am fine reaching in my pocket .
I also try to avoid putting myself in precarious environments , even though I know , anything can happen just about anywhere one may go .

It really just depends on where I go. Quick trip to the grocery store probably not carrying extra mags. If I gotta take a trip to Indy probably have a extra mag on me and on in the center console
Understanding most in the private sector may feel there are times when no extra magazine is needed. But in reality if Murphy is already on scene best to have a spare magazine.
