Go shoot it, carry it everywhere, use it. If you decide to put a good strong coating on it, do it. See how it holds up to your everyday treatment.
You may find that your normal everyday wear and tear doesn't faze it at all.
There are those that beat hell out of their guns and call it a well used tool, lol. Although I don't baby my guns, I don't beat them up either. Just saying, make it look the way you want. It's not money wasted.
