The fairness doctrine was aimed at the new conservative media of thr '90s. They wanted the left to have as big an audience as Rush!

But the point was they wanted to put people like Rush out of business because they can't meme or do talk radio like conservatives do.

The success of Rush was directly due to the abolishment of the fairness doctrine in 1987 that ran from the early 50’s. Many wanted it back when Rush and FOX News were crushing it.
