What is wrong with working these murderers on chain gangs or other hard labor until they expire or are released?
Very few places still do this and the ones that do usually only allow people with a possibility to get out to participate. Hard to force somone with no motivation to do hard labor. And by the softer peoplr in society seen as cruel punishment to the good kids who were just trying to turn their lives around.

These are the stupid problems with our system. If they actually really persued the death penalty this case would cost tax payers 20 to 40 million dollars and the defense knows this. With clear cut evidence, like this case. No question asked quilty verdict. The person did this, it should take less than 6 months, fast track whatever bs appeal is gonna happen and then they should be executed. Like this guy did that cop.

Our justice system is a joke. And both criminals and defense attorneys know this. They play it all day everyday.

Daniels has been assigned his permanent location. He will be at the George Beto prison unit in Tennessee Colony, in northeast Texas. There are four other prism units at the same location.

When I lived in Mississippi, people in striped suits picked up the garbage. I’m pretty sure they still do. It’s not like a chain gang though. These are minimum security inmates incarcerated for non-felonies. Many of them weren’t supervised. The jails have contracts with municipalities to provide labor. They get paid, and they get to use cheep labor.

A Texas Tech student was taken to the campus PD station after evidence of drugs and drug paraphernalia were found during a dorm room welfare check. He is accused of having pulled out a handgun after arriving there and shooting the campus PD officer in the head, killing him, and then fleeing. Campus was locked down until he was found and taken back into custody.

Texas Tech student accused of killing officer is caught, police say | Fox News

This could have been a drug charge, possibly handled by the University depending on severity. It's now a murder charge with aggravated circumstances, potentially a capital murder charge. They already knew who he was. Where and how was he going to flee? I'm also wondering how he managed to have a concealed handgun when detained and taken to the campus PD station. Not all press reports are 100% accurate and there's a remote possibility he grabbed one from an officer. That will undoubtedly be reviewed in great detail.

As this was in Texas, he's very likely a future Death Row resident.
    What a maroon.

Hollis Daniels was tried and sentenced to life in prison without parole in February this year. Don't know why it took five years to get there. It baffles me why the officer didn't search him before taking him to the police station, but that doesn't diminish his crime. He had a significant history of hard drug abuse, which made him unstable. This history and his drug binging is the reason the officer was sent to do a "Health and Welfare" check on him. The murder of the officer is what you get when hard-core drug abusers are allowed to roam free. Daniels came from a very wealthy family, which probably explains some of why he wasn't dealt with until after he killed a police officer . . . with parents sheltering him from consequences of his drug abuse and related criminal behavior dealing drugs to fuel his own drug abuses, dating back into his years at a private high school.

That's crazy. Thanks for sharing with a follow up. He probably grew up in a whole different world than the rest of us. Put a drug problem on top and it starts to make sense.

In the middle of this newscast their is a video of Daniels in the room with the officer just before Daniels shot him.

This video shows body cam footage before and after Daniels shot the officer, but it clips the footage of him in the room with Officer East.

I didn’t see this comment until now. Some clarifications:

The reasons it took 5 years to trial were Covid response and choice of defense attorney. The judicial system basically shut down for months and was then backed up for years.

One of Daniels‘ attorneys was Chip Lewis from Houston, well known and probably very expensive defense attorney. He was also defending Robert Durst (who is a story all by himself) in California at the same time, and Durst’s trial started first. Chip had to finish that trial before working on Daniels’ case, so Daniels’ trial was delayed. Durst was finally convicted and had the grace to die before filing an appeal, so that freed up Chip.

The Texas Tech officers were doing a welfare check based on a report of a gunshot coming from Daniels room the night before, and Daniels’ mother calling the campus crisis center saying her son was suicidal. The cops found drug stuff and a CO2 pistol in Daniels’ room.

Officer East and his partner did pat down Daniels when they took him into custody. Daniels testified that he had the (stolen) .45 in his waistband, the patdown caused it to slip into his crotch and the officers missed it. When he was moved to East’s vehicle it slipped down his trouser leg. Inside the cop car it actually fell out on the floor and East heard it but Daniels told him it was the hand cuffs, and East did not check. Despite having his hands handcuffed behind his back Daniels was able to put the gun back into his trouser leg. In the Texas Tech station they uncuffed Daniels and he was able to get the gun and shoot East.

Daniels is from Seguin, Texas, where I live, but I do not know his family. He attended New Braunfels Christian Academy thru his sophomore year, but apparently was removed after a marijuana arrest. He attended and graduated from Seguin High School, a public school, for his junior and senior years.
