Taiwan vs. China Watch Thread

China helped us in WWII to fight the Japanese. After the war they had a civil war… communist vs patriots. The Communist won and the patriots fled to Taiwan. The communist didn’t pursue and left them alone. It could be suicide for China to invade now, they gain nothing and stand to lose more than they know. But the leader has killed everyone that doesn’t think like he does. No one is telling him the truth or they die. So if he thinks it’s good to take Taiwan they all tell him it’s a good idea. All it takes is a good president to say we will no longer send food to China and in a couple years half their population will starve to death. We wouldn’t need to fire a shot. Nobody is telling XI that. Biden sure isn’t. China gains Taiwan but loses in the end. There’s just nobody left in China to tell XI that.

You should probably consider how embargo on oil have worked out. It is common for countries not embargoed to purchase oil for resale to embargoed countries, acting as middle men and attaining substantial profit on the transaction

It is virtually certain that a food embargo against China would play out the same way, there is too much money to be made breaching the embargo

All depends how serious we are. And the rest of the world joining in would cripple them also. Add to that their sudden shrinking of population over the next 10 years, they are getting in same boat as Russia. We can survive and live without China. You can’t eat computer chips.

The rest of world joining in? Well yeah, that'd put them in a tight spot, but that's a pretty different situation than just America putting an embargo in place, and not something we can really make happen on our own, no matter how serious we are.

And while you can't eat computer chips, the irony of our modern society is that we do rely quite heavily on computer chips to get food on people's tables. If China and America really did stop trading with each other, and for some really weird reason there weren't other countries who were happy to act as the middle man and make a buck getting either country the supplies they lacked like BugI02 was saying, the issue China would face would be how much starvation they'd go through before they could get a solid agricultural industry going, and the issue America would face would be whether or not we could put an electronics industry in place fast enough to keep our current agricultural infrastructure from collapsing (not to mention all of our other industries that rely on Chinese electronics.) I just don't see it as a given that China would be facing the worse scenario between the two of us in that case.

Of course, their population issue is a real thing, but that's looming on the horizon for them regardless of anything we may or may do in regard to trade with them.

I'm putting this here because many nations have dumped the dollar for the Chinese Yuan.
Probably another reason Saudi Arabia, and many other nations are dumping the US.
We are very weak right now and as more nations dump the dollar we will only get weaker and the Chinese will continue to raise.
They say China has the #1 economy now the US dropped to #2 and Russian economy has jumped up.

Taiwan is 23 million total people,on an island that depends on imports for pretty much everything from energy to food.

That is why China would likely just blockade it for a few weeks/months. It is what they are practicing for 3 days now.

If China wants total control of Taiwan there is little we could likely do without nukes. We do not even have the manufacturing capability to feed ammo to Ukraine,and shipments promised to Taiwan have been pushed out months because of it.

This one sounds pretty weak, even for Zero Hedge.

Read as: Taiwan reeally wants a nuclear deterrent against invasion. PLEASE Uncle Sam, won't you protect us like S. Korea & Japan?

Of course they're in talks. Like they have been for decades.
There's no chance in hell we would make such a commitment and poke that dragon in the eye.
