First off does anyone reload for subsonic ammo and what are your practices in achieving good ballistics while being quite? What is your go to formula (heavier bullet same powder or same weight bullet less powder)?

I fall under the heavier bullet mentality, currently loading 208gr and 220gr bullets for my 300BO. Haven't found the right mix for 9mm yet, I can get them quite but not enough to cycle whatever I'm shooting them out of.

What powder are you using for sub 300blk?
Only pistol caliber I load is 45acp.

I'm using IMR 4227 for the time being, with a 208gr ELDx bullet. Not sure on expansion but at around 60 yards (from my patio to the gong) it hits with some authority while still keeping my ears from ringing. Think I'm running right at 1100 fps, but have yet to invest in a chrono so can't be too accurate with that statement.

My test, typically making sure the firearm of choice cycles correctly and that I'm not hearing a pop/crack or any air ripping.

What length barrel are you running?

I've found it was way easier loading subs for my 9" then this 6". I was using 10.2gr 1680 w/ 220gr. Berry's for the 9" it was quiet and cycled perfect, but won't lock the bolt back on the 6" suppressed. I've had to load 11.4 gr 1680 w/ 220 berry's for the 6" any less powder doesn't lock the bolt back, not a very quiet load but thats probably due to the short barrel.

From my research I've found aa1680, Lil gun, h110, and cfe blk as powders that'll do what you want. Chronograph is a great $100 investment. I'm still waiting on hornady to sell the 190 sub-x. I won't shoot lead cast through my can.

Bolt gun or semi auto? Suppressed or unsupressed? For a semi auto, as stated above IMR4227 works very well. I've also used AA#9 with excellent results that also provide enough gas for cycling. 1680 and CFE BLK are extremely dirty.
For suppressed in a bolt gun, I use Clays...mouse fart quiet.

I’ve been running 1680 with 220 BT Nosler and the 190subX Hornady bullets. Both run and cycle fine and are extremely quiet. Platform is a 10.5” pistol gas barrel.

I have an 8.5" barrel that is pretty much only run suppressed. The current load out/recipe which I was leaning more towards 100% cycling than sound is: IMR 4227 10.2gr I think (I'll have to check my book) with the 208gr Hornady ELDx. This cycles every round, hits the gong with authority, and doesn't have very much sound at the shooter.

I have been picking up some 220gr ELDx when I see it lately, (about the only thing I see in 30 cal anymore) and I'm gonna start working on a load out for that as well.

Well when, if things go back to normal I'll have to try some 4227. I have a little AA#9 when I get off my arse and start loading again I'll give it a try. I too run suppressed 100% of the time and shoot mostly subs.

I actually "hate" reloading but you really have to with 300blk. I force my self about once every 6 months to set down and load for that day.

It aint for everybody that's for sure. I go through spurts where I'm constantly in the reloading room working on something to times where I won't be in there for weeks at a time. But I reload the majority of everything I shoot so I gotta make that time. I typically throw a podcast or a show on my tablet and go in there and just get in the zone and knock out a bunch.

I load subbies for both 9mm and .300.

    9mm:
I run these out of a G19 with a silencerco barrel. So stock barrel +1/2". Cycles nice. Use mix of brass. Blazer, Winchester, Aguila, etc. Same recipe.
    3.2gr Hogdon Titegroup
    1.16" COL
    CCI 500 primers
    Acme 145gr powdercoated
(I have not chronographed these, but no bullet crack)

    .300ACC:
11.3" barrel. Mostly AE brass, but some Sig and PMC too. Didn't see much difference in speed between them.
    8gr Hogdon Lil'gun
    2.25 COL
    CCI 400 primers
    Lapua Secnar L 220gr
(chrono at 1080-1090fps with good accuracy at 50yd)

Available now at Midway, probably won't last long though...

Already gone!! Good lookin out though!

I have a box of Hornady Black Subsonic 300BO that I picked up a long time ago and those look like the same bullets in those rounds.

How are you guys testing expansion? I've never tested one of mine for expansion. I did find a big piece of the jacket looking at a hole in the ground (friend wanted to hear how quiet a silencer was in reality).

I also don't test expansion, just listen for how hard it hits a piece of steal at range... But I would assume they might be utilizing some of the gelatin molds or even watermelons/cantaloupes to see what kind of damage is being done.
