Picked up a Street Wise Gun Magnet cheapish thinking I could use it to keep a pistol near my TV chair. The table beside my chair does not have any drawers., so I could just attach the magnet near the top of one of the legs where I could reach it.

Good? Bad? Ugly? Risks I haven't considered? I'm still on the fence but would like to hear what the INGO hive mind has to say.

I'll start by saying I do not if this is true or not.

I thought I read in another forum that those magnets can a problem over time. Fine metallic particles can become magnetized and create a problem. I do not remember the details, just the topic.

Anyone shed any light on it?

I always have a few old holsters around, and have been known to mount them in discrete locations on furniture. I buy a lot of stainless steel pistols, and I am not crazy about a magnet being long term storage of a Steel pistol. Between electronic devices and magnetic memory, The last thing I would want is a pistol with a magnetic charge corrupting my credit card magnetic strip. (or a strong magnet under my table where I lay my wallet, phone and computer.) My concealed gat already collects t shirt fuzz, I don't want it to pickup any iron particles from the workshop.

    I've often wondered the same.

I definitely remember that thread. I might try and find it.

I don't love the idea of grabbing around for an unholstered pistol under stress and trying to pry it off a magnet. It seems like that presents a lot of opportunity to get a finger in the trigger guard and raise the risk of an ND.
