Write to your state and federal political critters. Write to your state and federal professional bureaucrats. Explain to them why red flag laws are fundamentally bad governance. If you need pointers review one of Mr relford's recent podcasts.

In my writings to representative schaibley and others I have pointed out that red flag laws as currently implemented are almost universally flawed.

First, they do not have adequate safeguards to prevent the weaponization of the law. Such laws need to clearly indicate with severe penalties, that false reporting is a crime and the punishment is equal to or greater than that levied upon the person reported upon.

Second, such laws need to have clear criminal penalties for professional misuse of the statutes either by law enforcement, or the prosecutorial branch of our government. A prime example of this on one side is a recent FedEx shooting. In a example law I would like to see, prosecutor Mears would be facing criminal prosecution for failing to execute his duties after the police had done theirs. He might also be facing sanctions for his actions after the FedEx shooter, when he started processing every red flag submission under the sun.

At the end of the day red flag laws are flawed because they do not remove the dangerous individual from society, they remove one means of that individual being dangerous, from the individual. They also infringe upon rights guaranteed by the Constitution to each citizen and deny due process.
