IIRC you need your 50 post or site supporter status to unlock your ability to have them.
Click on the person's avatar and start conversation should pop up.

I thought so. I never had stupid posts like +1 or anything like that…who knows.

It’d be nice to message people, specifically for reloading advice/recipes, but honestly I’m a lot more active on other forums.

It might just take a little time for the system to recognize that you're now qualified to do the conversation thing. You could always ask one of the mods about it.

I dont think there is a limit for site supporters, but there is a limit of 50 or less for freeloaders.

And as a mod I'm not sure if we have unlimited so I clear my messages out often. It doesn't take long to get to the 500
