Growing up my Dad had a little Sunfish which we could get two people on on a good day. It was fun to tool around on. I'd like to have something similar of my own one day.

I've watched craigslist over the years looking for the right boat. This one just happens to pop up at the right time.

    I'm open to name suggestions.

I came up with one the gf wasn't a fan of.
I'm not sure if I can say it here.

    Since it's a sail boat I thought
    A funny name would be...

    "Flow me".

But flow isn't the word I said.

Well, that works with a lesst two entirely different interpretations!

Well Titanic's been used so I got nothin'.

Over the past several years I've thought about trading the power boat in for a sailboat but there isn't any water in Indiana! Oklahoma has several lakes in the 10+ mile long range as well as one or two within an hour of where I lived in SW Oklahoma across the state line in Texas. I just can't wrap my head around turning around and going back over the same patch of water all day long.

Never mind what it was like boating when I lived in Key West. . . .

Yea Indiana isn't great for lakes. But there's enough water to enjoy.

My gf is from northern Michigan lake country. She misses being on the water. She also used to love fishing. I haven't gone fishing since I was like 12. So I figured let's get a boat and go fishing.

Same here, haven't been fishing since I moved from the Keys. Just couldn't understand taking the bait home and cooking it at the end of the day!:):

Lake Monroe is probably your best bet as far as size of the water goes. You've got roughly 4-5 miles of navigable waters on either side of the causeway, although the "fast" side could get a little rough for a boat the size of yours on a busy weekend day with all the power boats. If you're able to have enough clearance to get under the causeway bridge (or if your masts are easy enough to lower), then you've got a good 10 miles. There's even a sailing club there. Patoka is also a decent sized lake, although I've not been on it (in my pontoon boat).

Many years ago I bought my dad a tiny little sail boat. He grew up sailing.
He showed me how to sail.

I figured what the hell let's give it a go myself.

Here's the one I bought my dad.

Granted my boat is way more boat than the one I learned on. But I'm excited for the challenge.

    Fun stuff!

I had a buddy that taught me a bit about how to sail some time back. I enjoy it more than a power boat.

Is the rigging / sail in good shape?

Everything is in good shape, I could throw it in the water today and sail if I had the time and wind.

If you haven't already done so, I'd look into getting a small outboard as a backup, especially if you're planning on fishing out of it. It'll give you a lot more flexibility for fishing, as well as having a way to get back home if the wind goes calm (or a way to get off the water in a hurry if the weather turns bad).
