So, I’m not gonna spend a ton of time explaining all these 1911’s. I’ve done that and the threads don’t seem to get much traction. Maybe people don’t care, maybe the write ups are just to long.

That said, here are some pics for your viewing pleasure of sone high end customs I’ve recently picked up.

    Enjoy.

Beautiful guns! Why is it that they all have straight main spring housings? I've always liked the look and feel of the curved main spring housing....JMHO I like the GC Commander the best.

Mainspring housings have much less to do with looks and much more to do with ergonomics. Some of them on the Ned guns and Rogers guns are completely reprofiled in a way that allows the gun to just transform into the hand.

Arched mainSpring housings are geared more towards bullseye shooters and allow for a better one handed grip, IMO.

The mainspring housings you see in my pictures allow for better drawing, training and combat situations, as well as better concealment for civilian carry/conceal carry.

Sheesh, which one NOT to like, they're all very fetching!! If you were my Dad and I got to pick the one to inherit, I really like the Bunker Arms. It's got a super nice clean look to it. But seriously, ending up with any of these in a blind draw would be a win.

FWIW, I had been under the impression the A1 arched mainspring was introduced to slightly change the grip angle, as a lot of servicemen were shooting their 1911 pistols a little low. The arch naturally points the pistol upward just a bit as it sits in the palm of your hand. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on my history here.

Agreed Bob Marvel guns are always towards the top of my favorites list. That being said I drop this kind of coin on a 1911 it's going to say Heirloom Precision on it.

Curious if you have any Marvel guns or seen one floating around? I come up on one every 3-4 years.

Burton builds a great gun. Maybe I’ll get one someday!

Honestly I have only ever seen one in person at the Indiana Gun Club around 3~ years ago. I am very much aware of how rare most of these pistols are and very much appreciate your posts. I would happily settle for a Nighthawk Bob Marvel realistically. You might know this collector but here is an Instagram page that might be appreciated. Mostly "older" custom 1911's but very cool stuff.

Yep, Mark (pistol purview) is a buddy of mine. He’s got an amazing collection of colts built by every custom smith known. The pistol pictured is known as “the casino gun”. It was all stainless Colt covered in DLC worked over by Ned Christiansen designed to be the ultimate CC pistol. It features Neds Conamyds, shield Driver Sights, and a bunch of other amazing goodies from Ned. It got the name “the casino gun” because Ned said it looked as if it could have been carried by Bond in Casino Royal!

I just missed that pistol when it went up for sale… it’s in a good home with Mark though.

Good lord that's cool , and I definitely agree with the would fit in Casino Royale. If only we could get James Bond to ditch that PPK (well he carried a P99AS in Casino but still).

I don't collect the customs yet , but love the history of the guns and builders. View it as a part of the continual improvement the 1911 has undergone over the last 100+ years. Everything from the early browning prototypes to the ultra modern double stack RDS equipted wide bodies we are running today absolutely fascinates me.

Then factor in my OCD, attention to detail and my interest in 1911/2011's makes a lot more sense. :abused:
