It wasn't happy with me when I flipped the boat over. It was hissing at me and had flattened it's head. Then when I tried to flip it out with a stick, it defecated and squirted poop I guess. Kinda funny, but when it finally got out, it went straight to the pond and swam away. I've seen other brown water snakes, lots of black snakes, but not one that looked like this. Kinda cool with the orange color on it.

Likely an eastern hognose. They will do this to fake you out, and if that doesn't work, they will strike with their mouth closed. If that doesn't work, they will writhe around and play dead, complete with rolling on their back with their tongue hanging out. They are as limp as a rope when they do that. But if you turn them right-side-up, they will turn on their back again. Apparently dead snakes MUST be on their back.
