I traded a gun that I paid a little over $500 (Sig P229R, had 2) for a near mint S&W 581 no dash last week. I have not shot it yet and I wish I could post picture, but it is a very nice looking revolver. The finish just shines for a twenty year old gun. This was when S&W really made very nice pistols. I am very pleased with it. It sure is better than the current production S&W 686, at least in my opinion.

Nice guns. Fixed sight L frame S&W offered. Bot sure when they discontinued them but if I remember when Natchez carried firearms in their books in the mid 1990's I don't believe the 581/681 was offered.

It absolutely is much better than the current junk they're producing. Keep buying and shooting those old ones. I have a safe full of them and I am so glad I bought them when I did. None of them cost me more than $400 and they're all going for well over $1000 today. None of them are safe queens.

I like fixed sight revolvers. Had a 581 a while back but sold it. I picked up a 681 2 or 3 1500s ago and love it. I think they only mabe these a few years.
