I'm noticing a lot more snipers in the weeds when I'm out driving around. I imagine every city budget is feeling the pinch right now. I believe they would jump at the chance to procure greater revenue with fewer officers detailed to traffic

Again, already there, don't you watch the insurance commercials, they use that to bill you also. The freedoms most of us have enjoyed all our lives are quickly being usurped by the government/corporate cabal. It will be particularly jolting for folks in Indiana as CATO says we are the third freeest state in the union...
Still an option (I don't have one on any of my vehicles) and a private contract.

This is one of those times where technology really screws us. 20 years ago this technology would have been pretty easy to locate in a vehicle and we could have pulled them off and thrown them in the river. Not these days.

That is still better than my grandparents getting forced to pay for the nearest town's sewer that never got anywhere near them.

At the end of the day, forced participation is unacceptable.
Agreed. Most people still defend their sacred cows, however. SS + Medicare come to mind.

The insurance company connection is optional but the crap monitoring you built in the car is still functioning. Most cars are reporting back to manufacturers and and some app developers even if you don't know it...

According to.my brother who is a heavy equipment mechanic, if you disable the antenna it can scream up its electronic lungs to no effect. The catch is identifying the correct parts or having a mechanic familiar with your vehicle that you can really trust.

When we 1st got those god awful GPS devices on our service trucks we figured out real fast that the radio antenna was the key. We messed with the office staff soooo hard. Leave the shop. Take the antenna off at the gas station and then put it on when you wanted to. Had a lot of fun until the Garmins came along.

Except half the time the antennas are just traces on the PCB of the device. So you have to crack open the housing, and be skillful with a Xacto.

...and what happens when this device reports to the engine controller that it's malfunctioning and the engine should enter limp home mode, or only allow the engine to start thrice until it's fixed? :evilangel:

Full disclosure: I designed HD veh. electronics and trackers/disablers for buy here, pay here dealers.
