I have had a half dozen of these over the last 40-50+ years
Remember paying less than $200 back in the 80s & 90s for brand new ones
All of the gun shops have several used & most want $350-$400
Saw one locally listed for $220
Think I might just have to stop bye & see what it is today
I have a boat paddle stock & metal barrel band, triggers etc.
Figure it is one of the newer ones with polymer trigger group because the serial # starts with 0002-22****
Dates to 2014 by the online Ruger Serial # Lookup

Figure the gun shops are just gouging folks as normal
Imagine they paid less than $100 for the used ones BUY SOME!

I was reading till I saw 80's and 90's , it's been 30~ years and the recent inflation price adjustments have not helped any. Want to remind all of us younger folks how you get Machine Guns for just an extra $200 back then too?

I just bought a LVT model for $312.

I'm pretty sure the plain jane carbine was closer to $250.

Edit: just went and checked the price is $277 for plain wood stock carbine model

$225 is a good price. It probably is one of the grey polymer "budget" models. I'd still buy if if that's what you're after.
The first 10/22 I bought I spent $275, and I bought it about 10 years ago. I've replaced everything except the receiver, bolt, and bolt spring/handle. New barrel, stock, trigger. It's still one of my favorite rifles.

    Also:
Having talked with a few LGS owners, margins aren't what you think they are. 10% is making good profit on new firearms. I would guess they may make 30%-40% on used.

Stuff was cheaper 30-35 years ago? No way!?

Price gouging? C'mon man. You should like Bernie Sanders and Lizzy Warren talking about oil companies.

You imagine gun stores are buying used 10/22s for a $100? Why would you assume that? Would you sell a 10/22 to the local gun store for that price? I wouldn't. Do you think there is a bunch of rubes out there who have no idea what they're worth?

I don't mean to pick on you OP, but I'm also not sure what your point was with this thread.

Best prices online appear to be around $260 online.

    I've purchased 5, from a low of $214 in 2019 to a high of $270 in August 2021.

I got a nice stainless one for $150 used and one built in 1984 with the metal trigger group for $225 used.

I just checked. Cabela's and Rural King are $300, and Rural King is $349.

This is for a base carbine Model 1103.

If you ever think you'll want sights on your 10/22 stay away from the "optics ready" models that don't have the sight dovetails. They sell them a little cheaper because they don't have to machine the dovetails.

There are a lot of folks who don't want to deal with private sales and the gun stores and pawn shops take advantage of them. Also people who inherit guns with no knowledge of what they are worth or how to deal with it.

I'm also not sure what your point was with this thread.

:ingo: - no other point needed. :)

I didn't mean to start a price war on this 10/22
The gun shops & pawn shops do rob the buyers, I have been there & seen it happen
A lot of these guns go in the collection of the guys who work at the LGS
In 1983 I made $3.35 an hour to be a manager of an auto parts store
Later when I was making $14.50 I was rolling in dough & had everything covered
Now that I'm retired & have minimal funds I still find time & money to buy some toys
A 10/22 was one of the best plinking rifles out there period
I have seen guys replace every part with a high priced Volquarten pieces & end up with a $1500 target rifle
That is not what I plan to do with my next 10/22, I want to just shoot the hell out of it... :ar15:
Used to shoot a brick of 22lr every Saturday morning along with whatever centerfire handguns & rifles we took to the forestry
A Ruger MkII &10/22 were the go to piece ..
Guess I should ride over to the Pawn Shop & have a look at the $220 10/22

Sears here, no converse though. Just new shoes that had to last all school year.

But squirrel/rabbit gun came from K-Mart.

Didn’t get my first 10-22 till my late 20’s, still got it. That rotary mag. was a big deal then.

First 1022 was new walnut standard, Sportsheadquarters.......50 or 55 bucks.
Got a 95 model, birch/beech, metal trigger guard.......unfired in the box for 250 this yr.
Was gonna build it into a custom squirrel rig, but changed my mind and put on consign at a shop.
