There is no requirement for the president to salute uniformed soldiers. In fact, it was started by the guy between Carter and Bush, after he inquired what he should do when he was saluted by military members. Further, the as used in example you provided, "salute," I don't think is meant as literally engaging in the hand gesture, but rather an acknowledgement of respect extended.

What do you mean by thus far? 4 years isn't that long of time and frankly the entire period people were becoming worse to each other. You can disarm people with kindness. Im not saying you can go to an (insert protest) and change a mobs view in 5 minutes. But listening to people and being respectful will win over more people than flat out making fun of them.

This is generally true. During the summer a lot of traditional democrats saw that the only people who seemed to care about stopping the violent riots were Republicans. The democrats were behaving badly, and most people saw through that. I think it's innaccurate to call that a dichotomy of high-road/low-road. It's being wise and just in the way one conducts him/herself. Making fun of people won't generally win them over.

But. There comes a point where a heart can't be won with reason, kindness, wisdom. So at that point, just go ahead and mock them. Brian Stelter for example, is probably the most mockable person in media. And there is some stiff competition there. Don Lemon, Chris Cuomo. Well, there's a long list of people deserving of mockery. Does it help? Well, it's informative at least.

I think i've seen you post you're a man of faith. Did Jesus hang up on that cross and say, "screw these ungrateful people. I did all that good and look where its got me."? No, he prayed for them. Im not going to get all preachy but you can catch my drift. Giving up and becoming a jerk to everyone because they think differently isnt the answer if you want to advance your cause, it does the opposite.

I wouldn't say be a jerk to everyone. Be honest. And it's fine to mock people who are complete unsalvageable idiots.
