It is a concrete reminder of the transient nature of human life. It's difficult to look at the skulls, think of the fact they were people with their own lives, hopes, successes and failures, etc and now they are anonymous bones. Stripped of any identity today, what did they live for then? What do you live for now?
After nearly 40 years in healthcare I am way too used to death and corpses, but human bones still creep me out! And bones recovered from the Baumeister estate (not far from my home) have been in the local news this week.It is a concrete reminder of the transient nature of human life.
