Oh the stories I could tell you about calling surgeons and their responses to me. Or the hospitalists, or so many others.

The heroes of healthcare have become the zeroes.

Good luck everyone. It's been a fun 11 years.
It seems that even the conservatives have been bitten by the post-modernist bug. When I catch myself doing it, it makes me feel sad. There are some bad doctors, so they must all be bad. There are over 600k state & local officers, but somehow they're all bad. The (healthcare, judicial, educational, scientific) system isn't perfect, so it must be totally corrupt and torndown to be rebuilt from the ashes despite how rarely that works out well. ... Or something like that.

I've always found your posts to be rather insightful and hope your hiatus ain't permanent.

Obligatory pic and since I'm complaining about post-modernism:

@hoosierdoc new avatar, I almost didn't recognize you.

What do you mean by the "it's been a fun 11 years" are you giving up on ER medicine?

Government intervention, also abetting corporate intervention, is destroying much of our health care system.

You're right, it is all a scam to defraud you.

There were ways to stop this from happening. Congress chose none of them. It in our best interest to be in network with as many people as we can. But when insurance company gives you **** poor reimbursement, our only recourse is to go out of network and use it as leverage. Now we have none.

Enjoy the destruction of modern health care and independent medical groups. Guess what happens when you lose the capitalist incentive to work hard?

I would say about 30% of the time I consult a specialist now I talk to a doctor. That number goes down every year.

Altruism has its limits and it is getting very hard to squeeze between that asymptote
What is so difficult and destructive about if you consult on a case you would be required to accept the patient's insurance reimbursement rate? Could you not simply refuse the consultation like so many doctors will do if it is a workman's comp case? Or does that put too big a dent in the bottom line?

Perhaps stop treating every patient as a revenue stream and treat them more like a human being
