Planned Parenthood Stops Taking Reimbursements for Fetal Tissue - WSJ

Give me a minute while I find a better, non-paywall source.

Posting this because it's sort of a major development in the Planned Parenthood situation. Kind of contradicts all the claims of "doctored videos, smear job..." etc, etc.

This thread isn't a place to discuss or debate your views or morals of abortion. This is an update to the ongoing Planned Parenthood controversy, and development thereof.

I'm sure they've already come up with a strategy for being reimbursed once they're properly absolved for mending their ways.

So... what they are saying is : the threat of losing their Federal $$ means more to them than the "Soylent Green" money (or at least the _traceable_ "Soylent Green" money...)

    Interesting.

We could end abortion now while still keeping it legal if we just required the person getting the abortion to be responsible for the disposal of aborted child.....If they just had to dig one hole six foot deep to put the remains in it may be just enough incentive to get them to use one of the many birth control options available to them....

"Thanks for supporting our corporation....Here is your to go bag with your aborted fetus and some condoms along with this complimentary shovel with the slogan "Remember...Wrap that rascal" branded on it to remind you there are other options to this situation you found yourself in."

So, with that out of the way, the GOP is going to get back to work on the economy, right?

Giving it away for free, vs making a profit... doesn't exactly resolve the larger issue of PP being a corrupt and entirely unnecessary organization. As long as we could be assured that existing clinics/hospitals/etc could handle the workload of current PP customers/patients (at similar cost)... PP needs to be abolished.

One of the most important lessons I've learned in life is, "you break it, you bought it.". If we abolish them, then how, exactly, do we as a nation plan to solve the problems Planned Parenthood tackles?

STD tests, free condoms... you can get those elsewhere. I'm sure regular clinics do this already, as well as most of the services PP provides.

PP doesn't do mammograms anyway, so that's irrelevant.

Medication to treat STDs - Hospitals/clinics got that.

Pregnancy test - any local drugstore.

Birth control - Lot of this OTC now, and nearly all forms are covered by insurance.

Abortions seem to be most of what they do. Hospitals and licensed surgery centers do these.

So... aside from soak up taxpayer funds and donate to exclusively one political party.... what does PP do that's unique and special?

Alternatively - Just stop giving them taxpayer money. Allow them to operate without it (as they can do), and they're more than welcome to take in donations (as they already do).

All of those things you mention cost money. At a clinic or hospital the cost can be prohibitive. Planned Parenthood makes sure that women who cannot afford birth control can still get it without insurance, hell...without money if they ask.

The same is true for Pap smears and breast exams...free, if a woman can't afford the care on her own.

Mammograms are performed under the supervision of a radiologist, but planned parenthood will arrange the appointment and (in special cases) pay for the care.

Planned parenthood is far more than an abortion clinic, but that doesn't fit the "narrative " here...

We don't need to argue about how INGO sees the topic... but what's keeping normal, everyday clinics from doing these services in the same capacity?

    Money.

Planned Parenthood provides these services at low, or no cost. Hospitals and clinics charge dearly for these services, especially to those with poor or no insurance coverage.

This thread is now doomed. Why bother?

Eh, I'm genuinely curious. There have to be alternatives and other ways for it to work... because right now, it just sounds like PP is a welfare service... and obviously once you give that to people, it's near impossible to take away. Like foodstamps, or unemployment, etc... These services existed before PP came into being.

Comes down to "What is the root of the problem?"

Is it hospitals/clinics overcharging for services? Maybe, how do we fix that?

I find it curious, that with this one issue, we cannot fathom how people will ever get along without government sponsorship and subsidizing....
