Hall of shame time INGO! Post up the guns that you threw money at that either didn't pay off in terms of liking the finished product or, guns that turned out nice but could return less than half the amount invested should you decide to sell them.

My first offering is my Gen 4 G23. I like this gun a lot but made the mistake of adding up what I put into it. Between the gun, RMR, milling, sights, trigger, grip tape and GFA, I'm into this one to the tune of about $1500 or more.

This thread feels like it was created specifically for me.

Starting off we have a police trade in Glock 22 converted to 357 Sig, color filled engraved filigree, and too many upgraded parts to count.
IMG_20210601_163728.jpg Next up is a new and unfired Glock 19x that was milled, cut, and cerakoted. I have 2 Glock 45's so this will probably never be shot. IMG_20210512_163958.jpg
Last but not least is an old Star BM that bored me so I had the entire gun plated in 14K gold. Screenshot_20210711-124852.jpg

When it comes to common sense, I have none and I must hate money because I can never find a reason to hang on to any.

This was another one of mine. It's a Glock G30sf with a red dot sight. Who wouldn't love a 10 round .45 with an optic? Apparently me. It never felt good to me after the red dot install so I sold it. It functioned fine and was easy to be accurate with but I just never liked shooting it.

    .
Nice looking guns. I have few modern guns and really never took a hit value wise on old stuff. I've got an old Colt SAA that I'll likely have more in than it's worth to get it up to scratch, or I might part it out.

Only non striker fired handgun I still own, and largely because I won't get out of it what I have in it (though maybe these days I could). Taurus PT99 from like 1991, that I had Black T coated all those years ago. This picture doesn't do it justice, it is beautifully done, even had the guide rod, spring, and extra mags done, etc.

I've also got a Gen 3 Glock 19 that I had AllenM do a carry melt job do on the slide (by hand) and cerakote it. Of course Glock a few years later came out with the Gen 5 with some of the same characteristics. I'll never get rid of that gun either.

The option of parting one of my guns out had never occurred to me. It makes sense though, in that I could possibly get closer to the investment value by selling piece by piece. I’m guessing that for an old Colt SAA, you may be doing the SAA community a favor by adding to the parts supply out there. I imagine parting out an old SAA could possibly result in several other old Colts living again. Parting out a Glock just feeds the 80% community, some of which might by gang bangers looking to build something they are not eligible to buy.

I do my best not to bury myself in something unless I'm convinced I'm going to keep it, not that I haven't found myself upside down a few times.. Keeping pics would only magnify the pain so I don't really have any. This malady seems to be even more infectious to some of the more recent people to join our community. I've pulled some pics from a Holosun group that I follow because I'm stunned with what I see there.. Here's a couple that might even surprise some of you.. I'm pretty certain these guys might have problems even getting half their money back.

I'm embarassed to admit my love for the lowly SW22 Victory. It cost a mere $300 and the more I shot it the more I loved it. When I decided to start adding parts I knew that it would be lost money but I doubt that I will ever sell this anyway. P1020422.JPG
I added Tandemkross trigger and hammer. Then some Altamont grips, just because they were on sale.
24,000 rounds and I'm still in love.

Just about every gun I've owned I put too much money into to recoup the investment.

That’s not a bad thought except if I were a gunsmith, I’d want to do what I wanted to someone’s gun, then shoot it for a couple of years before sending them the bill. I don’t know if I’d have many customers that would be ok with that :/

Id loose my butt selling that at this point lol. The 26 im not to deep into but i still dont think i could pull the $850 ive got into it out of it.
