Politically, Portland is to Oregon what chicago is to Illinois. Good to see some push-back

Just be patient. The Dems are importing more illegals, and registering the dead. Soon the tide will turn.
Their ultimate goal by hook or by CROOK is to make the claim that a majority of "americans" support Dems.

It also directs the sheriff to determine whether gun laws violate the state or U.S. constitutions.

That's not the sheriff's job. They should be having the county's attorney do that and take it through the courts to fight it. This will result in nothing being done to fight the law.

Is this honestly a good thing? I'm not 100% on board. It may work out well in some places, but in others?

Is it just me, or does it sound like they'll shoot themselves in the foot?

The Coos County initiative seeks to prohibit the use of county funds to enforce the state background-check mandate, or many new gun restrictions in the future. It also directs the sheriff to determine whether gun laws violate the state or U.S. constitutions.

So the county isn't voting to disregard or nullify background checks. The proposal just says the county cannot pay for the state-mandated background check, but that doesn't mean in that county you can legally purchase a firearm without the background check. I think the state police handles the background check for transfers between private parties in Oregon, and they're probably not affected by Coos County. This seems like nothing more than a symbolic act.

The same website has the following article, too:

Oregon seems like a unique place.
