Maybe in the spring or summer I'll see about changing to a different type of light.
It's for the sign in front of the Legion Post.

    Not sure.
And, I'll probably forget about it, till the bulbs are out again.
They make several types of led replacement.
    2 main types
One that installs in the old fixture and another that you take out the balast.

For long term it is better to remove the bsllast.

I figured it would be better to take out ballast, one less thing to break.
But, I'd have to decide if I'm keeping the 8 foot bulbs, or just completely changing to something else.

If I want to keep the 8 foot bulbs, I have to find ones with the correct ends.

It was hard enough to do that with the old fashioned bulbs.

I am in no way anti fluorescent lightbulb lol I was just pointing out that it’s crazy people spend their lives making / marketing / promoting a product that is on the way out, or for some products already gone.

Course, if I do that, then I'll want to start changing them in the hall.
And the post doesn't have a lot of spare cash.
And not sure I want to 'donate' that much.

Maybe if I do a fixture or two at a time.

I dropped off two full boxes of 4 footers at the Merrillville Menards about 6 or 7 weeks ago. Separate trip for each box.
Menards said they no longer accept at that location.
Lake County Solid Waste Dept verified that. They had just updated their list, and also said that the one off Mississippi had told them they were not doing it anymore.

They said a few of them, I remember Hammond, and Schererville.. and since I knew where the Schererville one was..

Also, the bigger the bulb, the more problems they seem to have.
And I was dealing with 8 footers.

The girl at Schererville Menards was actually happy to take them.

    Still a LOT in use.
Over time, people will start making less, and charging more.
And then more people will swap over.

Also, when they have those hazardous waste disposals every 3 or 4 months, they only accept from residential.

So, they said they wouldn't take the bulbs from our post.
Though when they found out I was just trying to get rid of 2, they said they'd probably overlook it.

But, that was at a hazardous disposal.

I remember mid 00s Schererville menards used to have like a dozen hot chicks employed at once... Now, not so much....

I blame social media cause the hot ones are making money showing their goods on them interwebs now and not putting in honest work.

Are you looking to change all the light at the post to LED?

It does help drop the electrical use cost.
We noticed a significant drop in electrical usage when we did just 1 floor at our building for a cost analysis in order to justify doing the rest.

At the house jedi noticed the same thing. A huge drop in electrical usage by switching 99% of thr house to LED.

    Yes I know.
Still takes money to make the transition.
Also, the hall lights are mostly OFF. So...
