At a restaurant, I felt like Sadclown.
A kid was whining/crying the entire time.
Parents were trying to console the kid, bribe him to stop.

    It normally doesn't bother me.
But after a while I was waiting for the dad to act like my dad, and tell him if he didn't stop, he'd give him something to cry about.

Alas, we are in a 'better' time... supposedly.
I used that line once or twice back in the day.

Another thing I would do is never give one of the boys anything they cried for. Throw a fit, go to your room until you are done. They learned pretty quickly to quit throwing fits when they wanted something.

Do the discipline early, and maybe you won't be on Springer crying because your kid threatens to kill you.

    And it worked.

But now, we don't want to be cruel, so the behavior goes on and on and on and on.

As I watch my three year old grandson being raised, I have a lot of thoughts on this subject that I don’t have time right now to talk about. I will say this, it was a lot easier with the old ways. All it took was one look from my ironworker dad, and you knew what the next step was, and you’d do about anything to avoid the next step. Made for a lot less drama.
