I am another that likes a peep sight on a lever gun. Mine was not a Williams, but it was an old Redfield. All steel and well made. I had a big aperature, and a small aperature. Sometimes I just left the aperature out and it was like the rear flip sight on an M-16. The Redfield has kind of an odd sized thread for the eyepiece, something like #7 x 32. None of my Anschutz sight parts would work even though I bought a thread adapter bushing.

IMO, function is far and away ahead of form on a hunting gun. Do what you need to do to make the rifle the most effective for you whether that's a peep, tang, red dot or scope. How the rifle looks won't be much comfort if a big buck presents you with a shot that you're unable to take because you can't see the sights.
