    Wonder if it could play a defensive role in something like a 10/22 understanding while not ideal, it may allow for someone that really can not shoot anything else options.

    Any 40gr supersonic NON-HP 22lr load from a rifle will get the job done reliably.
    Plenty of penetration for the purpose. Moving to these ultra light bullets with more velocity is going to start reducing penetration quite a bit, which penetration is the only thing you want out of 22lr.
