I have a book on them. I can't remember which, I'd have to look. But it's the one the Navajo put in their own museum.
We picked up this 2012 book a few months ago. It has about 20 personal stories and 6 descendants stories. I'm working my way through it and it has the Navejo dialect printed in it also. Very personal accounts in the book with details you'd never know about. Bought it at the Meteor Crater landmark east of Flagstaff, AZ. This may be the book you have.

Now you made me go look.
Fortunately, years ago I was better organized, and most of my history and military books are in the same bookshelf.
this is the one I have..
