January 27, 2021 Dear Bryon: Thank you for contacting me with regard to the 2020 presidential election. I appreciate your taking the time to inform me of your thoughts on this important issue. In the weeks that followed the November 3rd election, President Donald J. Trump’s campaign filed numerous legal challenges, requesting recounts and disputing the constitutionality of the electoral process in certain states. After the Trump campaign exhausted its legal options and all states certified the final results, the Electoral College on December 14th cast its votes accordingly, with 232 votes for President Trump and 306 votes for former Vice President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. The integrity of our elections – and the faith the American people have that their votes are fully and fairly counted – is a cornerstone of our democracy. I share the concerns of many Hoosiers about irregularities in how some states conducted the 2020 election. That is why I strongly supported the creation of an Electoral Commission to conduct a thorough and transparent emergency audit that would have helped restore the American people’s confidence in our electoral system. However, because Congress was unable to reach a bipartisan agreement to take such a commonsense step, on January 6th, 2021, I voted to formally object to certain electors from contested states in order to shine a light on these concerns. The objections were defeated in the House and Senate, and Congress formally certified the election results. Another cornerstone of our democracy is the peaceful transfer of power. Like the more than 1.7 million of our fellow Hoosiers who voted for President Trump in November, I was disappointed in the outcome of the election, but we as Americans must follow the Constitution and support an orderly transition to the next administration. This peaceful transfer of power occurred on January 20th with the inauguration of President Biden. The riots at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th marked a dark day in our nation’s history, but we are not ruled by violent mobs, and America is strong enough to endure attacks aimed at the heart of our democracy. Those who invaded the Capitol, assaulted members of law enforcement, and murdered a Capitol Police officer must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. In the wake of this horrific attack, Congress should be entirely focused on uniting the American people and strengthening our country. That is why on January 13th I voted against H.Res. 24, because impeaching President Trump with less than a week left in his term did nothing to advance either of these goals. I am grateful to President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence for their tireless efforts over the last four years to put the American people first and make our country stronger, safer, and more prosperous. As President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris take office, I pray for their success and America’s success. Our country faces many challenges, and the president has an opportunity to unite our fellow Americans by following the path of bipartisan cooperation and rejecting a radical agenda. As your representative, I remain committed to working across the aisle to defeat coronavirus, rebuild our economy, strengthen our national security, and keep the American Dream alive for hardworking Hoosiers. No matter which party is in power, I will always fight for workers, families, veterans, small businesses, and farmers. I stand ready to work with President Biden and his administration toward common goals, and I will stand firmly against policies that would threaten our economic recovery, weaken our national security, or erode Americans’ constitutional rights. Please know, there is no greater honor than serving the hardworking Hoosiers of Indiana’s 2nd District. If you would like updates on the actions I have taken in Congress, please visit my website at walorski.house.gov to sign up for my e-newsletter. Thank you again for contacting me. Sincerely, Jackie Walorski Member of Congress Indiana Second District JW/ 1M | |||
--------------------------- Original Email --------------------------- Sent: 12/28/2020 Subject: State electors I'm sure you understand the cheating that took place in the last presidential election. I've seen you speak to topics which shows me you study the issues. Pretty much if we let the cheating that occurred in the last election stand the republic is lost. Hopefully we can stop the worst case scenario from occurring. This would take courage and bravery from several senators one of which I hope would be you. These senators would stand to save the republic and reject the fraudulent electors from the states where cheating over road the legal votes of our fellow Americans. The House of Representatives has several members ready to do their part. I hope the Senate can follow their lead. Please encourage your fellow Senators to stand for |
