What is the deal with counterboreing? How does this affect the rifle? Just wondering as I see counterbored rifles for less than non counterbored rifles.
The crown/muzzle was worn due to the cleaning implements and procedures (or lack thereof) they used.
The counterbore typically removes 3/8-5/8 worth of damaged rifling, recessed from the muzzle and cuts a new crown.
They're not as pretty compared to a pristine barreled Mosin - but compared to one with a damaged crown (provided you don't have the means to repair it), I'd take the counterbored one every time.
fireball is right. I would almost rather have one that has had this done to it, because you know it has the "recrowned" barrel, while the other ones could be still wore out.
