First visit in a while and the new software is taking me a while to learn.
I'm using a PC with Firefox and I don't see any changes to the way a forum looks after using the "Mark read" function.
What am I failing to do?

I agree, The only thing I see is in the MAIN page, The INGO Symbol turns GREY for that sub forum.
Thought I was the only one that missed that feature

Agree. When marking notifications read, notifications don't appear to be marked as read. (They still show as unread on the "show all notifications" page, and appear in the notifications pop-up - the alarm bell in the header menu.)

If you mark read before you leave the forum, the next time you come back, you can hit "what's new" then "new posts" and you will see everything that happened while you were gone. I very rarely look at the full forum any more unless I'm searching for something specific. I have a bookmark set to https://www.indianagunowners.com/whats-new/posts and that's the link I use to look at the new posts only. When I am finished, I click on mark read (twice, grrrr.... it's annoying to have to confirm, but whatever).

Does doing this Set it up so when you check new threads, you get everything new since your last visit in chronological order?

Yes. The threads are in order with the most recent on top. Here is my "new posts" page since I marked read about 8 minutes. ago.
